Having trouble with one of my mods? Don’t worry, most issues are easy to fix. Follow this guide step by step before reporting a bug.
Enable Script Mods and Custom Content in your game options.
(These settings are usually turned off after big game updates, so always double-check.)
Restart the game after enabling them.
Make sure the files are not nested too deep. Mods should be within 5 folders deep max. Example: Mods/UTOPYA_MODS/ Mod_file.package ✅
Remove old versions. Only keep the latest download.
If the mod includes a .ts4script file, it must be placed directly in the Mods folder (or only one sub-folder deep). Scripts placed too deep will not load.
Always clear cache after updating mods:
Make sure to close the game
Go to: Documents › Electronic Arts › The Sims 4
Delete localthumbcache.package
Delete everything inside cache and cachestr
Delete onlinethumbnailcache if present
Restart the game so fresh files regenerate
Some mods need Lot51’s Core Library or Xml Injector. Make sure you:
Have the required dependency installed.
Have the latest version of it.
Some merged mod packs may contain outdated versions of my mods, which cause conflicts.
Test with a clean Mods folder: only Lot51 Core Library or XML Injector + the UTOPYA mod.
If it works on its own, another mod/CC is conflicting. Add your other mods back in small groups to find the one causing the conflict.
Interaction not showing up? Make sure you’re using the correct UTOPYA objects. EA versions or unrelated CC won’t work.
Some interactions require conditions (first kiss, relationship level, skill level, etc). Read the mod description for details.
Objects missing in Build/Buy? Search the keyword (e.g., “Rental” for eBike Station) or check Outdoor Activities if you don’t see the Transport tab in base game.
Some mods include a separate object package — make sure you installed it.
Buffs or effects missing? Clear cache (localthumbcache.package) and restart. Old data can block new buffs.
Bike/prop disappearing after traveling? Items return to inventory unless sold. Check your Sim’s inventory first.
Missing text? Usually caused by a missing string for your language. Comment it below so I can fix it.
Llama icon showing? Happens when a custom icon doesn’t load. Mention it below so I can update it.
Sadly, after each new Sims update, save corruption becomes more common, especially with large Mods folders. If you’ve already tried steps 5 and 6 and the mod still isn’t showing up, test it alone in your Mods folder (with its dependency) on a fresh news save
Back up your saves
Create a fresh test save and try the mod there
If it works in the new save, the issue may be with your old one
Big Sims 4 updates often break mods. If something stops working after a patch, check my Master Mod Index post (Coming Soon).
Most of my mods do not use scripts, so they usually survive patches fine.
Always make sure dependencies (Lot51’s Core Library / XML Injector) are updated. If they aren’t updated yet, wait until they are.
If you’ve tried all of the above and the problem is still there, you can:
Comment below this post with details about the problem.
Be specific (“interaction not showing up,” “object not in Build/Buy”) so I can understand what’s happening.
Please do not comment unless you’ve gone through every step in this guide; most issues are solved here already.

Again, read this guide fully and follow the steps. As I said, Most issues people report are caused by:
Not updating dependencies (Lot51’s Core Library / XML Injector)
Old versions of the mod still in your Mods folder
Cache not cleared after updating
Nine times out of ten, these steps fix the issue. If you skip them, I won’t be able to help until you’ve tried them first.
The Master Mod Index post is coming soon!
