Ride Together | Bicycle Mod

Hey everyone 💛 hope you’re all doing well! This month, I’m bringing you something a little different, and honestly, one of the biggest projects I’ve worked on so far. It’s been challenging, but also incredibly fun, and I’m really proud of how everything turned out.

So, let’s talk about bikes in The Sims. How much do you actually use them? For me, I’ve always liked the idea of biking, but in practice… they kind of fell off. The only time I really used them was back when Discover University came out. Britechester was the perfect world for bikes; it was so convenient to ride around campus. But outside of that? I’d always forget they existed. They never really became a part of my regular household gameplay.

That’s exactly where this mod comes in. Beyond the main feature "Riding Together," the mod adds small touches and new systems that make bikes feel relevant again. No longer just a forgotten object, they can now be part of dates, late-night hangouts, or even teen adventures around the city. Take your Sims on a romantic evening ride, or let your teens explore with friends; Biking now finally feels social, immersive, and worth playing with.

Since this is a bigger mod with lots of moving parts, I really recommend reading through the description below. There are plenty of details to understand, as well as some important things to keep in mind while playing. But if you don’t want to go through everything, you can also head straight to the Download Post, where I’ve included a compact recap that covers the main mechanics and systems.

◆ Mod Description:

As you’ve probably guessed by now, this mod introduces the ability for Sims to ride together on a single bike. For the first time, two Sims can share the same ride and traverse the terrain with others,

Riding Together will make biking now more convenient. Your Sims can now move across the town side by side with each other, instead of splitting up or leaving someone behind. It blends the functionality of quickly traversing the terrain with fun and immersion to your storytelling and gameplay.

◆ Ride Together Interactions:

There will be a brand-new pie menu dedicated to Ride Together Mod.

Inside, you’ll find five different ride types, each designed to bring a new animation and mood to biking together. And yes, I have made more ride-type animations:

Once you choose a Ride Together interaction, your Sim will first go sit on the bike. After that, a new Picker will open where you can select the passenger to join the ride.

As mentioned, each ride type comes with its own vibe and unique set of animations:

Each ride will have its own unique buffs for both the driver and the passenger, depending on the type. A risky ride may leave them feeling Playful, while an intimate ride may spark a Flirty mood, adding depth and variety to the way these moments play out.

You can't ride with Sims that you don't know. Casual, Scenic, and Risky Ride are friendly Interactions, and only Sims with 30+ Friendship will be able to ride with you.

Intimate and Flirty Risky Ride are romantic interactions, and Sims won’t show on the list unless they have 40+ Romance with you.

◆Ride Together Bicycle:

I don’t like locking my mods behind packs, so I always aim for base game compatibility and create everything needed to make that possible. The same goes for bicycles; I’ve created my own custom bikes, so this mod can work with just the base game.

For now, I’ve added two new bicycles, with more planned for future updates (including sport and mountain bike variations).

For this release, the mod introduces one main bike, technically two, but only one is available for purchase right now. I’ll share more details about the other one further down in the post.

Vintage Classic Bicycle:

The Vintage Bicycle comes with 30 swatches and can be purchased in Build/Buy for §800. It’s styled as a modern take on a classic vintage bike, inspired by a real brand I came across in an ad. The design stays close to EA’s aesthetic, so it blends seamlessly into the game and feels like it’s always been there. I also plan to put together a short guide for other CC creators who might want to design their own bikes to work with this system, or convert already existing bikes

The bike will function just like the regular ones, but it also supports Ride Together interactions.

Carrying a passenger isn’t effortless; it will slowly drain your Sim’s Energy and Hygiene, reflecting the physical effort. If your Sim’s Fitness skill is below Level 6, riding for too long can also trigger negative buffs. On Risky Ride, this can show up as a Fear/Tense buff from losing balance or feeling like they might fall, and while all ride types can eventually leave your Sim with sore legs.

◆ eBike Rental System:

The mod also comes with a brand-new eBike, but it’s only available through the Rental System. And yes, the mod will also add a new Renting mechanic to the game.

To access it, you have to use the eBike Rental Station. Place the station on any lot, and your Sims can rent an eBike anytime.

The rental mechanic ensures that your Sims can always enjoy the Ride Together Mod without worrying about whether they bought a bike or have one in their inventory. Normally, if you forget to buy a bike and end up on another community lot, you’d have to travel all the way back home, purchase one, and then return just to ride around.

With the rental system, that problem disappears. Let’s say you take your Sims out on a date or a casual hangout in another area, you weren’t planning on biking, but once you’re there, you decide it would be the perfect spot for a ride. Before, your only options were to place a random bike on the lot (which isn’t very practical, since it can’t go in your inventory) or go home, buy a bike, and travel back again. Both options felt clunky and immersion-breaking.

Now, all you need to do is place down a Rental Station, and you’re set. Your Sims can rent a bike on the spot and enjoy the world together, whether it’s a spontaneous ride with friends or a romantic evening date. The rental system turns biking into something more flexible and immersive, letting you use it whenever the moment feels right.

The e-Bike Station and the bikes themselves come in 6 different swatches. Each swatch is linked, so when you rent from the station, you’ll receive an e-Bike that matches the swatch you selected.

Other than being convenient and immersive, the rental e-Bike also comes with its own unique gameplay benefits.

And those benefits will also be applied to in-game interactions. Unlike the in-game bikes, which slowly drain your Sim’s Energy the longer they ride, the eBike won’t drain anything at all.

You can choose between three rental options:

When a Sim rents an e-Bike, they’ll receive a timed buff as a reminder. If the bike isn’t returned before the timer runs out, they’ll be charged a §25 late fee and get an Embarrassed moodlet. Keep an eye on the buff to track how much rental time is left.

You can return the eBike directly at the rental station, or to make things more convenient, through any mailbox, whether at home or on a community lot. This way, you don’t always have to track down a station when you’re done riding.

If your Sim happens to get a late return fine, it can also be paid either at the station or through any mailbox, keeping the whole system simple and flexible.

And also the fine buff will stay on youre sim until you have paid youre fine. And you won't be able to use the rented bike anymore.

◆ eBike Rental Station:

Originally, the rental station was built as one big object with all the bikes attached. But I decided to break it down into separate objects to give you more freedom. Now you can place the station anywhere, indoors or outdoors, and decorate around it with extra bike props to make the setup feel as realistic and customized as you want.

Here’s what comes with it:

For gameplay, you’ll only need the eBike Rental Station itself. The other objects are purely decorative, giving you creative freedom to design a rental corner that feels like part of your world.

You can quickly find all the rental items by typing “Rental” into the Build/Buy search bar, or in the transport category.

If you’re playing the base game only and don’t own a pack that already adds bikes, you won’t see the Transport tab at all. In that case, all the new objects will also appear under the Outdoor Activities section.

Each station swatch is designed to match a different neighborhood map style, so you can blend them naturally into your worlds. The swatches also control which color eBike your Sims will rent; for example, if you place a grey station, it will provide grey eBikes. Keep that in mind when decorating, since the station color determines the bike color.

The only way to access a functional eBike is through the Rental Station. They are not available directly in Build/Buy. Decorative versions exist so you can make the station look full and realistic, but only the station itself is functional.

If you’d like to park functional bikes on the decorative parking docks, or if you want to place multiple docks/stations close together, you’ll need to enable Free Build Mode to make everything slot in smoothly.

◆ How the Mod Works

Once you choose a ride type, a new picker menu will appear, letting you select a passenger. After both Sims are on the bike, you can either send them to a specific location (Bike Here) or choose Ride Around if you want them to simply hang out together.

The driver Sim can also already be on the bike, and you’ll still be able to select a passenger to join them for the ride. If you want to switch to a different ride type, though, the passenger will need to hop off first, then you can choose a new interaction and have them get back on.

Note:
If the Ride Together menu doesn’t show up, double-check that you’re using the correct bikes; other bikes won’t be compatible with the new interactions. I do plan to release a guide on how to make bikes compatible with Ride Together, including a step-by-step for converting an already-made bike. The process is actually pretty simple and can be done entirely through Sims 4 Studio, no other 3d software required.

◆ Alpha State & Known Bugs

This mod is still in alpha state. The Sims 4 was never built for mechanics like two Sims riding together and moving side by side, so I had to take a lot of creative corners to make it work. Because of that, there are some things you should know before playing:

⚠️ Canceling Interactions

Fix: Reset the bike using debug (Shift + Click), and everything will return to normal.

⚠️ Traveling Between Worlds

Fix: Just travel again, and they’ll reset to normal.

💡 Extra Quick Explanation
In The Sims 4, whenever you load into a new area, Sims always spawn standing and then return to what they were doing. But with Ride Together, the passenger is technically “sitting” on a bike, something the game doesn’t naturally support.

On top of that, the game treats biking as if it’s one Sim moving around, so the passenger is basically counted as “sitting on” the driver. To make them move side by side and stay in sync while interacting, I had to link the passenger’s animations directly to the driver.

Because of this setup, if you travel while the passenger is still attached, the game doesn’t know how to handle it, which is why the passenger AI breaks. That’s why it’s so important to always dismount before traveling. or reload them again.

Don’t worry, these bugs won’t disrupt your game or cause any serious issues. They’re just small Animation/System quirks that come from The Sims 4’s limitations.

I’m still exploring ways to polish this further, but I didn’t want to hold the mod back any longer. Most of the major bugs are tied to the way the core system works, so they’ll likely take longer to fix. To really solve them, I’ll need to rework parts of the mod’s foundation and test if it’s even possible within The Sims 4’s limits.

💡And just in case you didn’t know, if you want to follow your Sims while they’re riding, just right-click on their portrait, and the camera will automatically stay locked on them as they move. It’s a nice way to enjoy the ride with them.

This mod has been in the works for quite some time, and it ended up being one of those projects that kept pulling me back in. Every time I made progress, something else would break, and I’d have to start over. Since I’m more of a creative/visual person than a coder, tackling new mechanics and systems like this took a lot of energy and focus.

And the only way forward was to lock myself in and try to finish it. And I’m glad I did, because without that push, this mod probably never would have made it out.

🟡 One last thing worth mentioning: I’ve removed helmets from all of my custom bikes. Any riding interactions on these bicycles won’t force Sims to wear them. I really wanted the animations to shine, and helmets just got in the way. This way, your Sims can enjoy the ride freely, and you can capture those cute screenshots without anything blocking the moment.

I hope you’ll have fun with this mod, and that the wait was worth it.
