I really wanted to bring a new element into the garden videos for the 2024 season, and one thing I've always wanted to do is raise butterflies.
I've just ordered 450 seeds for Swamp Milkweed (pictured above), a Monarch's favorite snack and breeding ground.
In Spring we'll build a simple frame about the size of the little greenhouse, cover it with a mesh fabric, and raise anywhere from 40 to 100 Endangered Monarch Butterflies! Not only will they add to the population, but the milkweed plants throughout the garden will serve any other Butterflies who happen by! The plants are a Perennial and do better year after year, offering food and protection to Monarchs for years to come.
This is gonna be awesome.

did you know , most monarch butterflys migrate to mexico to breed every year. truly an epic journey nina.
