Elastic in Spandex
Added 2016-11-17 01:14:22 +0000 UTCWidely known fact about spandex and other stretch knits: sewing on it can be terrifying... sewing elastic bands in it is SUPER terrifying. If you're ever sewing elastic into a stretch garment on an overlock machine, always make sure to pin the elastic band 1/8" below the edge of your fabric. This way the treads on the overlock will catch and sew in the elastic BUT the blade won't cut into it. Mangled elastic means the death of your seam and we don't ever want that. Once the elastic is sewn in, fold it under like the picture above and sew a zigzag stretch stitch in it on your sewing machine OR run it through your cover stitch machine for a more finished look (if you're lucky enough to own one of these bad boys... unlike me).
