I think Jim reacting the way he did makes complete sense to me. I'm surprise people were saying it's off character. It's literally his character. First being brave and almost naïve saying he'll show his sister he could have a good future then having that ripped away with Beam not only dead but cheating, then the diner debt, and pretty much being a single parent. Jim survives because he has to for the people around him. I think being gay to him while it is who he is but it's also something he can easily relate to his suffering. Internalized homophobia is very real. Li Ming already has being poor down. Being gay in a homophobic world is not an easy life. Of course Jim doesn't want that for Li Ming. It's unfortunate but very realistic for parents to feel this way.

Man I cried for Gaipa’s pain, can’t imagine what it feels like experiencing that kind of pain. I loved that Jim and LiMing sat and had a talk, that’s what they needed

This episode was emotionally draining... Gaipa first trying to put on a brave face while still suffering from Jim's rejection, seeking comfort in his mother's arms at the beginning... for him to lose her so suddenly after... Khaotung and his acting was just so heartbreaking, many tears were she'd this episode...
Seeing Heart's parents had started learning sign language also made me cry, happy tears this time. Not only that, but they're taking him with them outside the house, the mom is introducing him to her friend. The dad is encouraging Heart to go to Li Ming. Yeah, it's late but after the wake up call in episode 5, they finally learnt to do better for their son. Their character development was heartwarming to see.
I won't say anything about Jim's way of thinking, because I don't feel I have a say not being a gay man myself. But I understand what you meant and it makes a lot of sense.
What I sill say is that Jim clearly doesn't want Li Ming to go through the same hardships as he did... Also the scene with Beam's dad explained a lot tooin my opinion. It must have been traumatic for Jim being cheated on, having to mourn Beam who he clearly still loved, and then having everything he built with Beam being taken away...
Their scene drinking together was beautiful, it truly feels like that's what we needed to see, them talking and bonding. And Li Ming saying it's easy for him to say he loves uncle Jim, definitely tells us that no matter how they fight, there's so much love between them.
I think Mrs Hong was loved by everyone. Even though, it might seem weird for a bank manager to come to her funeral, I feel like she was a woman who you couldn't help getting atrached in a way. And isn't beautiful that she still brought a man in her son’s life despite not being there anymore ? I hope we get to see the start of their relationship next episode. I need to see Gaipa get all the love he deserves 🥺🥺
I am not ready for the finale. I have loved this series so much. Honestly, I enjoyed the other 2 series from the Midnight series. First one was intriguing and fun with great characters. Second one was the best stress reliever ever with awesome characters too. Third one is an emotional journey with great, complex and layered characters. It was hard saying goodbye to the 2 previous shows and for this one, it'll be devastating....

Javi, your comments regarding Uncle Jim's mindset about Li Ming being gay is spot-on... I think I can understand the logic behind Uncle Jim's seemingly off-character mindset here... He is what I called the conservative gay... And with conservative gays, they will always have this doubt about themselves if being gay is really "morally" right... They are constantly on the fence... They will always find ways to keep testing whether this gay thing is really right or wrong... And for Uncle Jim, that testing comes in the form of his relationship with Beam... That's why he said before to his sister that "I'll show ot to her" that same sex love can work... But unfortunately, it didn't at least for him and his relationship with Beam... It kinda is traumatic for him with Beam's cheating and death and all those negative stuff about the father claiming back all the money they built together... So for him, all these "gay experiences" so far have been nothing sort of problematic and traumatic... So he kinda sort of went back to the closet a bit after that... He's not sure himself if this is something that he wants for his life... That's what he meant when him and Wen had this conversation on the beach when Wen said if he still doesn't trust him and Jim said that it's not about trusting him - he's not sure about himself. So with Li Ming, I'm pretty sure Uncle Jim didn't reacted that way because he find being gay disgusting or that he can't accept it... He's simply projecting he's own life to Li Ming as his nephew may suffer the same fate as him because of being gay... Like what I said, it is seemingly off character for Uncle Jim if you look at it on the surface but if you backtrack on all that happened to him in the series, it all makes sense 🙂
