They were probably trying to come up with a word that non-Japanese speakers could understand. I tried explaining the "Hi-kun" thing to my mom and she was like, "Huh, what?" I wouldn't say the translation is very wrong. The intent is them making fun of his stutter, and calling him "Stutz" gets this across well enough.

They're not calling him stutz, they're calling him Hi-kun because all he could say of his name was Hi when he introduced himself, the translation is very wrong

It is true that Kiyoi doesn’t call him Stutz as others have pointed out, in fact, in the novel (novel spoilers only) Hira tells Kiyoi about his dysphemia and Kiyoi apologizes for not knowing about it. I know, what a shocker, Kiyoi apologizing? wow. Also, if you’ve noticed Hira seems to like Kiyoi not just because he’s beautiful but because Kiyoi doesn’t treat him any different from others, Kiyoi doesn’t pity him or baby him for having a stammer. So basically Kiyoi is an ass to everyone, he don’t play favorites and will call out behavior he thinks is wrong lmao.

I feel like I see something new every time I rewatch this show. The actors are subtle. I also notice this go round he stutters less when he's with Kioyi and Kioyi sticks around when he could easily just ditch him. I think second watch is like mandatory for this show LOL!

Don't stop my baby boy from apologizing, Bestie! It's so cute when he does, you know he had me at gomen (sorry) he's just so weirdly adorkable and creepy lmao
