Doctor Who S03E09 - The Family Of Blood FULL REACTION

Comments

I know these episodes are widely loved and considered some of the best. I've mentioned in comments that I am also not a fan of amnesia storylines, I kind of hate them. This storyline did feel a little different than the typical amnesia story, so I didn't hate these episodes, but I didn't love them like a lot of others. I did think the Doctor was mean to Martha, I didn't highly care about John Smith and the Nurse falling in love, but I did care a little, mainly because I think David Tennant did a great job of acting and really sold the emotion of not wanting to change back to the Doctor. Also, I did kind of like her line "He was braver than you, in the end. You chose to change. He chose to die." because it's kind of true, the Doctor chose to change, knowing he would change back eventually, when John Smith made the choice, he was choosing to no longer exist and knowing he would never be back, which is much more like dying. I also thought the family was creepy and I thought the kind of foreboding atmosphere in the background, knowing that the war was coming, was well done. i also liked the Doctor's rather dark punishment for the family, how he changed himself and hid, not because he was scared but because he was trying to show mercy, I thought that was an interesting choice. But overall didn't love these episodes as much as most do. I understand if you choose not to continue watching Doctor Who and Torchwood, but I do enjoy your reactions. Even though this season hasn't had the strongest episodes, as others have mentioned I do believe things get better. Also, as I've said before I would tell you when I became a Whovian, when we get to that point and we haven't made it there yet, so if you stop reacting now, I wouldn't get a chance to to tell you.

I still think the whole fury of the timelord scene is really cool, because it shows that you don't want to be the Doctor's enemy, cause while he his a nice guy he can be really vengeful sometimes. That line "we wanted to live forever, so the Doctor made sure that we did" is to me one of the coldest things ever said on the show. So yeah he hide because he was showing mercy, thought it would be better if The Family died naturally. I do think the whole John Smith falling in love with the nurse part was a bit silly, I get that there needed to be conflict but felt a bit melodramatic. Also yeah, the Doctor did treat badly when he was human, don't just say "thank you, for looking after me" Doctor also say "sorry for treating you bad" as well. I also feel sorry for those boys at school who had to fight because they were just kids, but that stupid headmaster didn't care he thought that made them men. Well no!! You may have scarred them for life. Having said all that I don't mind this two parter, it's interesting when an actor in show has a chance to play a different character instead of the one they normally play. Tennant has a chance to bend his acting a bit and play almost two different people, the scene where he holds the watch switching from John back to the Doctor almost reminds me of Clark Kent switching to Superman back to Clark again in the film from the 70s. So alright episode from me.
