It's very possible that the Ancients had some sort of futuristic butt cleaning system. Something similar to the chemical shower maybe, or maybe Scottie beams the filth off their butts, or they could use the 3 shells....lol. (think Demolition Man).

Did Chloe happen to bring her Birth Control Pills with her? Did he happen to grab a bag full of condoms on his way to the gate before the planet exploded? Or is he using old candy bar wrappers? It's possible they are just going by time of month, but that could be difficult to track in space as there are no sunrise or sunset, no seasons to assist. Or maybe just using pull-out method. Very unreliable. When describing the catastrophic failure observed every time in simulations of Col. Telford's plan to dial the gate home, Eli says 'horrible death, fire and brimstone, dogs and cats living together' which is an abridged quote from Ghostbusters.
