Stargate Atlantis S04E03 - Reunion FULL REACTION

I wasn't following Atlantis at the time, but I remember Tori had the starring role in a SciFi Saturday night movie around the time of her departure. It was easy to pick out she seemed a bit down in her performance. Whether that was caused by her Atlantis experience or something else. I don't know.. The story I seem to remember is Tori really wanted to stay, but the producers felt otherwise and she was just written out to her dismay.

I don't have anything to add to Carter replacing Weir as other people have explained it sufficiently and i don't remember much about it either lol it's a while ago now The Ronon story in 3x03 really annoyed me though i'm so over the fact that everytime Ronon comes across a fellow Satedan he's ready to jump ship without much issue This week it was the same story there was hardly any doubt on his part to ditch his friends from Atlantis who he fought and lived with for 2 years now for some people he doesn't even know and don't appear to be that nice and reliable on first glance , i swear we had this situation atleast once or twice before , i don't remember if this was the last time but i hope so

To further clarify things a bit.. From what I could piece together from Joseph Mallozzi's old blog posts and Torri herself explaining it in interviews, It was always the intention that Weir was a background character much in the same way as Hammond / Landry were background characters to SG-1 ...Atlantis was supposed to be about Sheppard's team. It was mainly due to the fact that Torri got the producers to give her some more screen time and that Brad Wright was a big supporter of the Weir character, that Weir ended up having more time on screen than initially planned. Torri had always been vocal about wanting to know about the direction of her character and it was no different at the end of Season 3 given how it ended.. She went to the producers and asked what was going to happen next season, was she going to come back or should she pack her bags and move back to L.A. ...She wanted to have some clarity.. Pretty understandable, It's a job after all and you need some security in knowing where you stand. And apparently from what I believe was Mallozzi stating that Brad Wright was taking on a lesser role in day to day work starting from Atlantis Season 4 onwards ..Meaning the main supporter for the Weir character was less involved to lobby for her return in full. The producers told her they wanted her back but in a recurring role (much like how we saw Beckett and even Zelenka during Season 1 in a lot of episodes but not part of the main cast) Torri opted against it and this is why her character went M.I.A. To be clear, there's isn't any bad blood between the actress and the producers, although I do think that perhaps there could've been an attempt made at communicating things a bit better.

It's been a long time, so my memory's a little fuzzy, but I don't think Torri (Elizabeth) was written out 100% motivated by the desire to bring Amanda on. Torri had become very dissatisfied with how Weir was being written, always staying behind in Atlantis, never having much of a story of her own. I don't think she was expecting to be a cross between Hammond and pre-season 6 Daniel. The desire to bring on Sam was more than likely a variable in all of this, but by some account Torri was pretty vocal that she wasn't happy with how her character was being written, which factored in there somewhere. It's less clear if she actually asked to change her status with the show. I'm of two minds of it. I feel bad for Torri to the extent of her losing her job, and the better choice would have been to write Weir as a more dynamic character with more to do They didn't do that though, so unfortunately I'm not as disappointed about Weir's departure; because it opens up new possibilities. I'm ambivalent about the replacement being Sam though, more so because it feels a little redundant with Rodney being on the show. Do we need two geniuses who can solve every problem with a pocket watch and some bubble gum? Time will tell. Daniel might have been an interesting choice, since he has many of Weirs attributes, but had taken on more of Jack's sass in later seasons.

Technically Ronon DID make a choice. He said he chose to leave Atlantis. I get his choice, the others were his people, as much as he likes and respects the humans, they are not his people. Ronon is fiercely loyal to his people. That choice was taken away by the betrayal. His choice to go with the others changed when he realised these are no longer his people. When he said, "You are not Satedans". He no longer had any loyalty to them.

Just FYI ...Shannan for some reason tries to be cautious at the beginning of every single season even though she's well aware she doesn't need to ...If an intro feels out of place, it's cause I've replaced it. Every intro that needed replacing has been replaced, and every important name has been blurred out in the credits all the way until the end of Universe Season 2.

Tony

I had to double check, you are right. I falsely remembered them not broadcasting the new title sequence. My memory is really scramble then

Retro Tom

Yip, it was me, I added the previous intro to 4x01 and 4x02 as to not spoil Shannan on the reveal. The original files had Amanda in the intro in both those episodes.

Tony

Did they air the season 2 & 3 title sequence for 4x01 and 4x02 when it originally aired? Because in the Blu-ray versions Amanda is included in the title sequence straight from 4x01. (Tony edited them out in the first 2 episodes which is why they weren't shown here)

Daniel

My memory of this episode was that it started on the scene of McKay & Zelenka in the hallway right before Mckay finds out, so when it started on Teyla & Ronan in the village I got confused if you got the episodes in the right order & even double checked I was not playing the reactions out of order. I said to myself this has to be right because you haven't been out of order so far & when it got to the hallway scene I then said, oh there it is, I guess it's my memory that's out of order For Ronan's new arm tattoo, Jason Mamoa got that in the break between the seasons so they kept it covered up in the 1st 2 episodes then wrote it into this episode as the first chance where it made sense for Ronan to get a tattoo. It was made public that Tori Higginson was being replaced in the show with Amanda Tapping, even knowing it ahead of time I liked that for the 1st 2 episodes of the season the used the season 2 & 3 title sequence & waited till this episode to put Amanda in the main credits
