Doctor Who S01E01 - Rose FULL REACTION

Comments

Watcha got against my boy Peter Capaldi?

SWTobito

Haha, I laughed at the April fools joke, it wasn't that bad. I mean I cried, because I love, love, love Doctor Who. But I still laughed, because I knew you would never watch it, so what did I expect :D I can't believe you're doing it now! Looking forward to your reactions!

I refuse to watch any Dr. Who after the 11th Doctor. Also, 10th Doctor is best Doctor.

James Yancy

OK, I will finally watch a whole season of Dr. Who (that is assuming Shan finishes the season lol) I came close when I was watching adragon do his reactions but he stopped. That made it hard though as they were edited reactions and I never saw the unedited.

The episode in early drafts had "Auton bin men", the plastic baddies from this episode which even though they aren’t named are a throwback to 1970’s DW which would explain why Mickey could appear in the Nestene Consciousness's lair after being eaten alive by the plastic trash-bin. The episode was intended to be presented from Rose's point-of-view. For audience identification purposes, Russell T Davies wanted the alien menace to be easily mistaken as human, so that it was possible for Rose to mistake the aliens for humans. Davies felt that there was no need to create a new monster, as the Autons met the criteria. Russell T Davies offered Edgar Wright the opportunity to direct the episode, but Wright was forced to decline, as he was still working on Shaun of the Dead. I love this episode, yes it’s silly and cheesy and has early 2000’s SFX but it also has heart and emotion and characters that you care about, nobody knew Buffy would still be talked about all these years later after that first season, (who’s Jack dinn?) love your reactions keep up the good work.

I always assumed the mannequins shot plastic bullets, but not sure where they got gunpowder to fire them :)

Doctor Who is in my top 5 shows of all time, so I will be watching however much of it you end up reacting to. I'm glad you enjoyed the episode, it is a little goofy and the special effects aren't the best, although they do improve with time as does the show. When I first watched this episode, I had heard about Doctor Who but I had thought it would be to silly and I wouldn't like it. It turned out not to be as bad as I thought it would be but still only alright, but it was interesting enough to keep going and I had the whole first season rented so I kept watching. I always wondered how Rose couldn't tell that at the very least, something was wrong with Mickey, the best I could come up with, other than goofiness, was belief, he looks like Mickey, so he must be Mickey, no matter how weird he looks and is acting, what other explanation could there be, that your mind would allow anyway. Kind of like with Clark/Superman and the glasses, you don't believe there's anyway that Clark could be Superman, so even thought he looks just like him, you believe he's not. But mainly I think it's just kind of silly.

Not gonna lie, rose gives me like Shannon vibes. But she’s an off brand Shannon. Like she’s the cheap version. Also the mannequins tried to pull a reverse flash on her in that basement 😭

Dally Boi

I haven’t seen any of the new Who stuff yet after Jodi but with these reactions starting up ooo Shan is in for a journey! Now i gotta finish Dr who I know blind wave is watching it now

So, I have never actually sat down and watched an episode of Dr. Who before, either the old one or the more modern takes. I do know a lot about the premise, because of how much it's talked about in pop culture and information online. Watching this episode with you, I have to say that it wasn't bad. I had a lot of pre-conceived notions about it going in, that it would be too heavily leaning on the sci-fi and time traveling aspects. I honestly thought you were going to be bored. But sometimes you have to see something for yourself to really know. It was kind of funny how Rose just said ok, I'll just leave my boyfriend, my mom and everyone and everything that I know in my life behind and travel with the Dr., who she barely knows. I guess you just kind of have to go with the fact that she is doing what no reasonable human would do. I was wondering the same thing about the mannequins having guns built into their hands but then, they are dummies coming alive. Suspension of disbelief was required already from the jump. It would be hilarious if you end up reacting beyond season 1, especially considering the many times it's been mentioned that you would never react to it and that April Fool's joke, which I remember very well. But you're on S3 of TWD. Where is Shan and what have you done with her? LOL

With the first episode of NuWho, we have the first modern version of a classic villain/monster--the Autons! Well, they are almost never actually called that, but in their first appearance, the Nesthene Consciousness (the big blobby thing at the end) took over company that made mannikins called Autons, so that's what fans call them, even when it's not accurate, like in this episode. By the way, if you'd prefer I not talk about Classic episodes, I won't in future, but I doubt you plan to watch them, so I assume it's okay. I won't bring up anything in NuWho or anything that hasn't already been mentioned in NuWho, so any future classic monsters I will not mention until after they appear, nor will I mention anything the new show itself will explain later, even if it was already brought up in the Classic show.

First time watching as well... It was ok, i enjoyed it way more than i thought i would. I will continue to watch with you. I just dont like that the main characters change so much and the doctor gets recasted. I dont want to get attached to a character only to lose them time and time again. But im giving it a chance.

One of my fav shows, glad to see season 1 on the schedule! I love the sense of possible adventure when he tells Rose the Tardis can go anywhere and it also travels in time. So many creative possibilities. Similar to Sliders or Quantum Leap. One interesting trivia bit - Clive showed Rose a picture of The Doctor at JFK's assassination. The original very first episode ever of Doctor Who in 1963 was due to the air that night, but got bumped due to the news coverage of the assassination.

What a fantastic reaction. Thank you. My favourite reactor doing my favourite show. What's not to love.

She's gonna loooooove that 😈

Ohh God I just realized this is Doctor Who, by which I mean there will be a million comments and each episode will start with a 2 hour reading of them. Commenters arguing with commenters endlessly. One way or another this is gonna get interesting.

Yes, so first up. Every episode of this show ends with a trailer for the following episode, so whenever you hear that sound at the end that leads into the main theme, pausing is advised. Doctor Who. Man, I am so glad you're reacting to this show. Also, it's good that you're noticing how Rose also sporadically forgets Micky and leaves him by the wayside in search of this grand adventure, just like she accuses the Doctor of doing. This' very much intentional character building. It's why we are shown Rose's boring every day routine at the start and the even more boring routine she would've had, if she stayed (just sitting around, watching tv and looking for a new low-paying job). This' a revival show btw. Doctor Who 2005-now is the so called Nuwho. The original show (usually referred to as Classic Who) ran from '63-'89 with a movie in the 90's. Nuwho is a continuation of Classic Who. Not an adaptation or anything. Nuwho's premiere episode "Rose" opened to a viewership of 9.9 million, reaching a peak of around 10.5 million as the episode aired, which, fun fact, was around 43% of the available tv audience at the time. Suffice to say, Doctor Who was a giant when it aired again, which is quite impressive cause Classic Who got canceled for low viewership numbers.

SWTobito

true on special effects, but they get better throughout the years to be honest. 2010 onwards they are not bad at all. Start of Steven moffatt era (AKA Matt Smith era)

Thoughts of the ep/reaction: - First, I am so excited to see you react to this. I had no idea about the prank you once did. - This is the first show I am watching you ‘start’ (I’m still watching a lot of your older reactions for the first time) so I’m really glad to watch your journey with Doctor Who, even if it only lasts one season, though I hope you watch more. - I have to echo above comments about embracing the goofiness, it’s a huge part of the charm of Doctor Who. Also agree about managing expectations when it comes to special effects. - Hearing you say ‘the very first episode of doctor who’ amused me, I was wondering if anyone was going to correct you on that. Technically, it’s the first episode of ‘New Who’ not Doctor Who. 😊 - Oh, it’s been a while since I’ve watched/rewatched series one, still great. Still find The Doctors speech about the earth moving incredible, and almost haunting. - It amused me when you remembered what happened to Mickey seconds before it did; not surprising it is rather unforgettable, then amused me more a little while later when you said you didn’t remember any of it. - “How do you not tell”- people have been wondering that for nineteen years. - This version of the TARDIS was my first, it still has a special place in my heart. - “Lots of planets have a north,”- Still makes me laugh. - Yes, it was a odd goodbye. - Welcome to Doctor Who, can’t wait to see what you think of the rest of Series 1 and beyond if you decide to continue. -

Officially welcome to the world of Who. The number 1 rule of Doctor Who embrace the goofiness, it doesn't take itself seriously so neither should you, that is what is it all about. Jackie (Rose's Mum) if she was 30 years younger she would be a personality you would find either on The only way is Essex or Jordyshore. I have always felt she was created as someone to roll your eyes at when she is on the screen. Rose not recognising the Micky Copy, again goofiness embrace it. The number of Whovians is growing around the world especially in America. This series chronologically takes off just after a Doctor Who Made for TV movie, which was also made primarily for American audiences. It wasn't very successful and wasn't very well received by Whovians. Don't expect top tier special effects, this is made by the BBC who doesn't really have that big of a budged to work with as it's a government funded network like ABC is here in Australia.

The shop exploded from the roof because he blew up the relay tower up there as he explained. Interesting timing with this reaction as Angela (funnylilgalreacts) just started reacting to Doctor Who last week. A completely different style of reaction so it will be interesting contrasting them.

Topher 😃

loved the reaction. i wonder if she will make it to season 14.
