Vampire: the Taskerade: Conversations!

Some of you may know that I ALSO work on a game for my friend Tris over at Back That Elf Up! It's an anticapitalist corporate satire about vampires working at a startup (so right up my alley, haha).

Here, we see the conversation trees in action - and, more importantly, get to hear the sound chatter!

The sound designer Eve designed four different suites of dozens of beeps and boops, which can be remixed and randomized for four different "voice types", a la Animal Crossing. Each time a character speaks, the "chatter" sounds are randomized live:

1. The game checks who's talking

2. A range is set based on the length of the sentence spoken

3. Chatter boops are played at random from the selected character pool, ending at the range above

It all happens automatically whenever text shows up on screen as dialogue spoken by someone specific, so there's no need to customize or hard-code in anything after the initial setup - just plug n' play! I LOVED designing the system for this, and I'm definitely thinking of incorporating something similar in another game in the future!
