I LOVED this issue!

I agree. There must be a scene where just the two of them have a chance to talk. I am still working out how that will happen, but it will happen!

Thanks!

Yes. It was among the reasons I jettisoned the feminist angle. I felt like there were some inconsistencies, or maybe I should say like I had forced a square peg in a round hole. While I allowed for the idea of some modern conveniences being provided by magic, even so I never went into much detail as to how that all worked. So, this time, we took a different path!

"It felt right to me that Asryn would be so embarrassed that he would run from Serren rather than face him in his reduced state." Very true. But you could create a situation where he doesn't have the choice. Maybe later, when he has experienced what is a girl life and could exchange insights with Serren.

"In the books, it was not my intention to portray a realistic pre-tech society, but to explore modern themes in a fantasy setting. ": Of course I understand your intent, but there is still the consistency issue. You have no obligation to be consistent, of course. But let's assume we want a consistent world, and let's see what we get. First, my assumption is that feminism is possible only if technology and medicine allows women to escape to their "biologic destiny". In other words, no feminism without contraception, reduction of infant mortality, mechanization, and many other product of the XX century civilization. So, to make the feminism belivevable in a fantazy setting, you have to find magic equivalents for all these inventions and to deploy them on a very large scale in your imaginary world. So you end up with a world very very different of the classic medieval fantazy. The medieval part will shrink to almost nothing, and the fantazy part will grow a lot. And this description doesn't match the Shattered islands, that are in my opinion still well anchored in the medieval fantazy tradition.

"Patteniaism" Great neologism, congratulations !!! :-) :-) :-)

Yes. I was conflicted on the maid outfit, but in a moment of weakness I gave in! As for the encounter, perhaps they will have a more heart to heart at some point. It felt right to me that Asryn would be so embarrassed that he would run from Serren rather than face him in his reduced state.

Yes. In the books, it was not my intention to portray a realistic pre-tech society, but to explore modern themes in a fantasy setting. I enjoyed doing that, but there were certain ways it felt a little forced to me, so with the comic I decided to make it so she was really just all about liberating herself. I guess she practices Patteniaism.

Taylor Galen Kadee

Good choice in the comic. IMO, modern feminism just doesn't have any sense in a pre technologic society where there is no contraception, no modern medicine, where physical strength matters a lot and where the gendered division of labor imposes itself as a condition of survival.

Me too, I loved the moment when Serenina understand that being Devin's wife is her best option. The storytelling is consistent and progress steadily. The scene between Paternia, Serenina and Asryn is also very consistent : Paternia does not punish Serenina but makes clear she still can make her life more miserable, Asryn being the living proof of that. Still, I am a little bit disapointed by this first encounter between Serenina and girl-Asryn. I think the dialog would have been more interesting if Paternia hadn't been there. Also (but it is very personal), I am not a fan of Asryn's maiden outfit. OK, this costume has advantages : 1) it is very very popular 2) it immediately point thats Asryn is now a servant. However, I think that this so called "french maid" is typical of the early XX century and doesn't fit well with the medieval fantazy setting of the story.

I was quite excited when I found that hairstyle and couldn't wait to put Serren in it. I do like the suggestion of the male option, so I will see if I can work it in at some point.

Taylor Galen Kadee

Love the hair. Love the realization that she is going to be a wife after all. Would love a scene where nina subconsciously chooses a feminine option when a male one is present, indicating she is mentally getting there.

Glad you like it! I liked the idea of making some different choice in the comic while trying to keep the main ideas from the books.

Taylor Galen Kadee

Ooohhh that means pattenia is a hypocrite ruler in this comic caring only about herself like Typical male interesting Plot twist.

In the book, Pattenia was all about breaking the old ways, making things better for women ...etc... She was a kind of feminist. In the comic, I decided to make her more of a narcissist. While she does not believe she should have been forced into a marriage, she believes most females are inferior to her, silly and emotional and best suited to marriage and motherhood. And, of course, she wants to force that life on Serren.

Taylor Galen Kadee

Awesome!

Serrenina should have not convinced his friend too kill his sister who has magic. he should have a strong wizard's help before he attack.i am surprised the female king is still enforcing the women should be forced to marry and given a choice to marry or not.?

Thank you for the birthday picture I love it.
