Nanako was asked by her teacher one morning if she would be willing to help out with the haunted house being put on by her school. Not wanting to disappoint her teacher, Nanako agreed with a feeling of excitement as she wondered how she would help out. All she was told by her teacher was that Nanako would be helping to build ambiance in the witch's section of the house. On the day that the house was to open, Nanako arrived early dressed as a witch with many art supplies so she could help decorate the area. Upon her arrival, Nanako was brought to the witches room where she was led through a secret door to behind the set that had been built. There, Nanako's teacher made a strange request... for the girl to take off her shoes. Doing as she was told, Nanako then had her feet locked in stocks and belts tied around her body. Her toes were tied back and brushes were placed on the shelves around her. Confused and a bit scared, Nanako asked what was going on, which is when her teacher finally explained why Nanako was there that day. "Well, you see, we needed some ambient noise to fill the witch's room and the faculty decided that noise should be crying and laughter. That's when I suggested using you for this since your laugh is so innocent that it would surely scare the patrons to hear you begging." That's when the teacher assigned one of Nanako's classmates to sit with her all day and silently scrub her feet. The witch's room was declared a favorite among visitors that day.
