Steam Has Rejected Boundaries of Morality.

After waiting for three weeks, I finally received a response from Steam — and unfortunately, it's not the one we were hoping for.

Steam has decided not to allow the release of Boundaries of Morality on their platform. According to their message, the game includes “explicit sexual content containing depictions of real people,” which, they say, they are not in the business of distributing.

Now, let me say — I appreciate the compliment. The animations are quite realistic.
But to be honest, I’m not sure since when transforming 3D art with the help of AI qualifies as "depictions of real people." And I haven’t seen this point clearly stated in Steam's public rules.

The last official update I saw said that AI-generated content is allowed, unless it’s used for live content generation. In our case, every animation was created in a scene editor using 3D assets — I have all the original source files, and no one from Steam ever asked to review them.

So what am I going to do about it?
Nothing.
Steam doesn’t provide any kind of appeal process. Once they say no — that’s it. I’ve heard there might be some workarounds, but honestly, I have no desire to fight it.

We’ll keep moving forward on other platforms — like Patreon, where Boundaries of Morality has already had a very strong launch and received amazing feedback.

And no — I don’t regret using this level of visual quality. I think it looks awesome, and you can see it for yourself in the trailer.
I just want to say I’m sorry to those who were waiting for a Steam release. It’s not happening, and it’s completely out of our hands.

Maybe, in the future, Steam will publish clearer rules about what’s allowed and what’s not. Right now, it feels like every review is a gamble.

Вчера я наконец получил ответ от Steam — спустя три недели ожидания. К сожалению, он оказался не тем, на который мы надеялись.

Steam принял решение не выпускать Boundaries of Morality на своей платформе. В официальном письме указано, что игра содержит “откровенный сексуальный контент с изображениями реальных людей”, а такой контент они, якобы, не распространяют.

Что ж… спасибо, конечно, за комплимент — анимации действительно получились реалистичными 🙂
Но если честно — с каких пор обработка 3D-графики с помощью ИИ считается "изображением реальных людей"? В правилах Steam этого не указано.

Последние новости, которые я читал, говорили, что ИИ-контент разрешён, за исключением генерации в реальном времени. У нас все сцены сделаны вручную, на основе 3D-моделей. У меня есть все исходники — и никто из модераторов их даже не запрашивал.

Так что я буду делать с этим?
Ничего.
В Steam нет системы обжалования. Если получили отказ — это окончательно.
Я знаю, что есть обходные пути, кто-то что-то пытался, но у меня нет ни желания, ни интереса бороться с этим.

Мы продолжим развивать проект на других платформах — например, на Patreon, где Boundaries of Morality уже стартовала очень успешно и получила тёплый отклик.

И нет — я совершенно не жалею, что использовал такой визуальный стиль. Он смотрится просто шикарно, что видно даже по трейлеру.

Извините, те, кто ждал релиза в Steam — его не будет, по причинам, которые от нас не зависят.

Может быть, когда-нибудь у Steam появятся чёткие и понятные правила — что можно, а что нельзя. А пока каждая модерация — это просто рулетка.
