Here's an extra post for the holiday season.
I started Dick Dogdick for a few reasons.
For one, I had been reading a lot of Dick Tracy comics from the 30s, as well as Al Capp's parody version that existed within Lil' Abner called Fearless Fosdick. Then I started reading the actual hardboiled detective novels (I probably read 30 over a two month period,) and I got Cassell's Dictionary of Slang for Christmas that year. So I was really into the lingo.
For years, since grade 3 or 4, I had been drawing this dog character that was somewhat coded as a detective or spy already. He didn't really have a name, but I combined Dick Tracy with Fearless Fossdick and came up with Dick Dogdick Dog Detective.
