Some Early Conceptual Pin-ups

Hey there Zelda-heads! Here's another sample of a bonus post for tier 2+ Patrons.

I made these four “pin-up” illustrations pretty early on in 2006/2007 when I was first starting to post comics. Part of the motivation was that I had a little square sketchbook that had nice paper and I was so sick of the coarse yellow pages in my private sketchbook (which I talked about last week.)

It was also a way to develop the characters quickly without have to finish pages and pages of story first.

And I seem to recall they really did help to propel the comic's momentum. I'd look at these and think “how do I get Petra Puppy or Piggy Painslut from where they are in the comic to these images?” They also did a lot to set the style of the comics, from the dark underground dungeon look of Madame Zelda's to the more bright and clinical-looking Nanny Goat's Nursery.

Then of course, I was just really into doing hand-drawn posters as the time, so these were also an excuse to play around with lettering and composition.
