About colorism, it is clear that the worker has tanned skin, and the loyal has fair skin(in that era). All of them has similar races so only their circumstances matter to their skin tone. Working class had to go outside to work, while noble people stayed inside. zishu was too pale to pretend as an ordinary man. This kind of colorism has been around for long centuries throughout east Asia and it still remains as a condition of beauty(look elegant, noble, etc)

2024-03-29 01:43:22 +0000 UTCNo I did think this too but then all the other characters are very fair skinned so it’s like, what is dark skin being used to symbolise in this context, kind of like how disability has been historically used to characterise monstrous characters. I guess not necessarily a comment on this show in particular just made me think!

2024-03-28 19:46:18 +0000 UTCi feel like it MIGHT be colorism but it could also just be that a beggar would be out in the sun more and therefore be more tan/unshaven, however zhou zishu is more of the ‘young master’ type and would be inside more so he wouldnt be as rugged and tan 🧐 thats just how i thought of it when i watched it idk!
