DC X Rider Ch 158

The aftermath of the battle was stark. Twisted metal, shattered glass, and sparking wires littered the control room—a testament to the chaos Toyman, Bane, and Blockbuster had unleashed. But now, a sense of victory hung heavy in the air. The dust settled, revealing figures, battered but unbroken.

Supergirl brushed a stray lock of blonde hair from her face, her blue eyes scanning the scene. A sigh of relief escaped her lips as she took in the sight of her allies. Kamen Rider Haruka, his Kabuto armor scratched and dented, stood a few feet away. Superboy flexed his hands, a cocky grin plastered across his face. Hila, surprisingly unfazed, adjusted her elegant green dress. Tula and Kaldur, their Atlantean armor gleaming even in the dim light, stood shoulder-to-shoulder. Miss Martian, her green skin shimmering, floated gently above the debris. And Robin, ever watchful, perched atop a pile of twisted metal, his gaze sweeping the room.

A silent understanding passed between them—a shared acknowledgment of the hard-won victory.

Haruka met Superboy's gaze, a slight nod of appreciation passing between them. "You packed quite a punch there, Superboy," he said, his voice rough beneath the Kabuto helmet.

Superboy grinned wider. "Couldn't have done it without the assist, Kamen Rider. You and Supergirl were a blur out there."

Supergirl chuckled. "We make a pretty good team, huh?" Her eyes landed on Hila, a warm smile gracing her lips. "And thanks for thinking so fast, Hila. That water shield saved us from a nasty hit."

Hila inclined her head, a hint of a smile playing on her lips. "Simply applied the knowledge at hand. The outcome speaks for itself."

From his perch, Robin scoffed playfully. "Alright, alright, enough with the compliments. Just try to coordinate a bit better next time, Kamen Rider. Your agile maneuvers were impressive, but at times a bit... clumsy." He paused, his tone shifting, his words laced with sincerity, "Still, vigilance is key. It’s what saved us all.”

A light-hearted banter filled the air as the tension of the battle began to dissipate.

"Impressive but clumsy? Is that your idea of a compliment, Robin?" Hila teased, her green eyes twinkling with amusement. "I do have to agree with him though. The execution could use a little work surface dweller."

Haruka crossed his arms, a playful retort on his lips.

Superboy, ever the showman, interrupted with a booming laugh. "Hey, clumsy or not, we kicked some serious butt! So, what do you say we make this a regular thing? We could call ourselves… the National City Protectors!" He struck a heroic pose, his chest puffed out. "Or maybe the… Super-Friends of National City!"

Supergirl burst out laughing, clapping her hands together. "Those are terrible names! But I love the idea. National City could definitely use a dedicated team." She paused, considering the possibilities. "This will go down in the history books of National City!"

Robin scoffed, dropping down from his perch with a graceful thud. "Please, let's not get ahead of ourselves. We simply defeated a few overgrown toys. I think we all deserve a break, though a short one," he said, with a pointed look at the assembled heroes. "Wouldn’t want to leave any other threats unattended, now would we?"

The light-hearted atmosphere hung in the air, a testament to the bond forged in the heat of battle. The shared victory had solidified their teamwork, creating a foundation for future collaborations. For now, though, a moment of levity was well-deserved.

The relative quiet was shattered as the heavy steel door to the control room crashed inward. Uniformed police officers, led by a stern-faced Captain, flooded the space, weapons drawn.

"National City Police! Secure the area!" the Captain barked, his voice cutting through the lingering echoes of battle. "Everyone, stand down!"

The heroes, relieved by the arrival of reinforcements, complied, stepping back as the officers took control. Handcuffs clicked shut on the wrists of the defeated villains: Toyman, Bane, and Blockbuster. They were led away, their reign of terror brought to an abrupt end.

"My creations... they were merely misunderstood!" Toyman protested, his voice a theatrical whine. "They only wanted to bring joy! It's the adults who ruined everything!"

Bane and Blockbuster, despite their immense size and power, exchanged a glance—a silent acknowledgment of their defeat. The hulking Blockbuster looked at the floor while Bane's expression remained unreadable behind his mask, his eyes narrowed in simmering fury. They were not used to being outsmarted, much less captured.

As the adrenaline faded, a sense of weariness settled over the assembled heroes.

Superboy clapped Haruka on the shoulder, a wide grin on his face. "Well, that was a blast! I gotta stick around and help these guys clean up," he gestured towards the police officers. "But hey, good work out there, Kamen Rider." He offered a fist bump, which Haruka returned. "See ya around!"

Miss Martian, still hovering slightly above the ground, gave a gentle nod. "It was an honor fighting alongside you all. Let's work together again sometime." With a final smile, she turned and phased through the wall, disappearing as silently as she had arrived.

Haruka turned to Robin, who was meticulously cleaning his gauntlets. "So, you heading back to Gotham now that Bane's captured?"

Robin paused, glancing up at Haruka with a calculating gaze. "Not immediately. There are a few loose ends to tie up, things to follow up on. I'll be here for a few days."

"Oh. That's great," Haruka said, a flicker of something unreadable crossing his face. "Maybe we can… hang out then."

Haruka lost eye contact for a split second and before he could recover, Robin was gone. A gust of wind swept through the doorway, leaving Haruka alone with his thoughts.

"You could have just said no…"

As the last of the police officers bustled through the control room, Hila turned to Haruka, a hopeful expression softening her normally stern features. "Now that things have settled down, Kamen Rider... might you be amenable to fulfilling our tour of National City? We never finished our expedition, after all."

Haruka blinked, surprised by the request. He had been expecting to head straight home and crash.

From the corner of his eye, he saw Tula and Kaldur exchange a subtle glance before turning their attention elsewhere, as if giving Hila the space she needed. It was odd, but not unwelcome.

"Sure, I don't mind," Haruka found himself saying, the prospect of spending more time with Hila—and putting off those college applications—suddenly appealing.

As Haruka agreed to accompany Hila, Kara watched, a strange knot forming in her stomach. She knew that Hila, the composed Xebellian princess, and the Hila she had met during the previous outing with Haruka were one and the same. A wave of confusion washed over her, blurring the lines between friendship, duty, and… something else.

Why is Hila suddenly so interested in spending time with Kamen Rider? Kara wondered. Was it simply politeness? Or was there a genuine connection forming between them? Her heart sank at that thought.

A troubling notion niggled at Kara's mind. Could it be? Could Haruka and Kamen Rider be the same person? She quickly dismissed the idea as ludicrous. Haruka was a sweet, albeit somewhat oblivious, high school student. Kamen Rider was a seasoned warrior, a force to be reckoned with. The two couldn't possibly be the same. Could they?

Kara felt an unease, a nagging doubt that she couldn't shake off. Perhaps it was the exhaustion from the battle, or perhaps it was something more. She bit her lip, her gaze following Haruka and Hila as they made their way out of the clock tower, unsure of how to reconcile her conflicting thoughts. Would she dare confront Haruka about her suspicions?

The emotional tension hung thick in the air as the disparate group of heroes prepared to scatter. Supergirl, a knot forming in her stomach, forced a bright smile.

"Well, that was fun!" she chirped, her voice a tad too high. "We should all do this again sometime. Maybe… bowling?" She cringed inwardly at her suggestion, feeling her cheeks flush. Bowling? Really, Kara?

Haruka, bless his oblivious heart, didn't seem to notice her internal turmoil. "Sounds good to me," he said, turning to Hila. "So, Hila, are you ready to see some more of National City?" A genuine excitement lit his eyes.

Hila, ever composed, gave a subtle nod. "Indeed. There are still many wonders of this surface world I've yet to experience."

And so, with promises of future team-ups and shared adventures, the group began to disperse. Haruka and Hila headed towards the city streets, their figures receding into the night.

The scene was a sharp contrast to the whirlwind of the events of the past hours.

Kara watched them go, her smile faltering.

A heavy feeling settled in her chest, a strange mix of sadness, confusion, and a flicker of… jealousy? The emotions swirled within her, a tempestuous sea she couldn't quite navigate. Unresolved, chaotic, they promised disruption to the easy order she previously understood.
