In the PF version of Zeitgeist, the Prestige Classes come online at level 7, and we're way past that point for the released 5E adventures. I don't think it's fair to say they're not needed yet.

There was an unearthed arcana which showed how they can be integrated, and they are easy enough to add or the features can be rolled into theme-specific feats. Lots of ways it can be done...
