So ends the Tale of the Great Winifred Burkle, Hero among Heroes. So begins the Story of the Short but Interesting Second Life of the Old God King Illyria.

My cat could hear Beans meowing and was looking around for her. So funny! He never meets any cats.

I really love Harmony's part in this episode. It's still Harmony being Harmony, but she slots well into the dynamic with the other characters; and I really like her thinking to check the missed calls on Knox's cell.

The whole time Ashleigh was hating on Knox at the beginning of the season, I was thinking to myself, "You have no idea how much you are going to hate him."

Fred was a good character...but Illyria is imo, the best character in the entire Buffyverse. You can tell Amy Acker had a blast playing her.

Oh! He played the skee ball loving "God" in Dogma. RIP to him!

This two parter never fails to bring me to tears. Everyone is so good and delivers top tier performances, especially Amy Acker and Alexis Denisof. Also, been loving your reaction to the buffyverse as a whole. I binge through both series once a year so the timing for all of this has been wonderful. Lastly and this is just a wild thing that happened to me. Years ago I had a dream where I was driving with my best friend and the song that plays at the end of Shells started playing on the radio. My friend asked me what the song was about and I said, “it’s about death.” When I woke up I read a text from a friend telling me Andy Hallet (Lorne) had died. It was pretty trippy and I always remember it when I rewatch these episodes.

The reason why we had to lose Fred, is because Joss Whedon is fucking cun- well you get the idea: he never lets you have anything good for very long, but fuck me, he didn’t even give us a full episode of Fred & Wesley being happy together, before the motherfucker took it away from us… …as you can probably tell, I’m still not over them killing Fred off, even though it’s been over 2 decades since I first saw these episodes: and I never will be over it; I know it was kind of rushed, due to the show being cancelled, but Fred & Wesley deserved more time together to be happy, after we waited so long for it to happen. Fred’s death isn’t as bad as the way they got shot of Cordelia: Joss “the scumfuck” Whedon fucked Charisma Carpenter over, & it was deliberately vindictive; with Fred, at least it was a good story, & not humiliating/out of character. And Amy Acker got to come back as Illyria, and show off her acting skills in a different role…I’m still not happy, but I get it. I love this episode for many reasons- including the way Wesley killed Knox, which was very satisfying: but one of my favourite things about it, is the montage of images, & the song that plays over them, at the end. In case anybody fancies listening to it, it’s called “A Place Called Home”, & it’s by Kim Richey: it’s an incredibly beautiful song, which usually makes me cry, as now I associate it with what happened to Fred. I highly recommend giving it a listen: it’s incredibly beautiful, & is absolutely perfect for the ending of this episode. Can’t wait for Ashleigh to get into the next block of episodes, & creep ever closer to the series finale: season 5 is one of the best in the entire show…even if it does some questionable shit that I bloody hate haha.

Today Illyira learned that you have to feed minions.

If you want a tiny bit of heart-healing, and you can live through some Shakespeare - watch Joss Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing. You'll get some Wes/Fred love redemption. Kind of.

RIP Bud Cort!!! I'd suggest doing a poll in his honor but Harold and Maude would win and it wouldn't be close (so maybe finally just do Harold and Maude?)...
