The necklace hanging on the steering wheel the guy said something like “Chris is driving” referred to St. Christopher. It was a medallion with St. Christopher who is the patron saint of travelers and sailors. I’m not sure I understand your reference to “The Hunt for Red October” beyond the submarine. That movie took place 40 years later during the cold war and was about a man defecting from Russia to the US.
