Things are still warming up and this was just another taste of things to come. In my opinion. The main thing to take away from this episode is that the new big bad is omnipresent, and influencing a lot of things at once. Also, not only can it take the form of practically anyone that has died, it also retains their memories. Essentially becoming an exact copy of whatever dead person it wants.

Joss Whedon Co-wrote the song "Blue" that plays at the beginning and end of the episode with Angie Hart specifically for this episode. This episode really gets in deep at Buffy's flaws. Holden calls her out on many of them and Buffy specifically says she views herself as being better--superior. This episode was co-written by Drew Goddard (Cabin In The Woods), who also wrote this season's "Selfless" in which Buffy's superiority complex is on full display.
