It was still so hard for women to get ahead in so many businesses and even though this was a comedy, we felt the truth of what it was saying. Ironically, I was working Top 40 radio when this came out for a business that owned about 10 FMs back when you could only own one FM per town. We did have one boss per station even though there was an overall boss that gave input. This movie lead to something that made everyone really angry because this overall boss, for the first declared the song from this movie, "Let the River Run" as a group add, meaning we all had started to play it that week whether we wanted to or not! There was a big ad in the trades about it too! We were all so afraid that he was going to start to tell us all what to play all the time, but that didn't happen. Since there weren't devices picking up what songs were actually played yet, I don't think we played it more than once a day between 10am &3pm either. Anyway, that's my Working Girl story.
