2025-09-03 18:26:01 +0000 UTCThe close up on Buffy and Spike at the end of the episode is meant to emphasize how serious she is about not sleeping with him anymore. This situation isnt like Angel or any of her other relationships, because this isnt a relationship. She is just using Spikes obsession to make her feel anything. In my opinion, seeing herself from Rileys perspective has finally made her realize how far she has fallen by indulging Spike. It truly is rock bottom for her. Buffys conversation with Spike at the end was her being true to the situation for the very first time. This is probably why she called him William, subtextually she is saying "im not pretending anymore."
