I'm sure someone probably said it on the og ep 9 uploads, but it bears repeating. The actor who played Doyle (Glenn Quinn) had substance abuse issues so that's why he was (mainly) written off. BUT, it's been said that Joss had always planned to have a supporting character killed off early on, this just gave him the opportunity. Unfortunately, Glenn died of an overdose on December 3rd of 2002 (RIP).
