We don't typically think about this with Dawn, but I don't think the memories of her history are simply fake. There's so much more going on. For one thing, we're talking 14 years of history, with no apparent gaps or discontinuity, but more importantly it's not just memories. She has diaries and clothes. When Buffy is moving out of her dorm room, Dawn comments that "some of your CDs are my CDs". Did those CDs not exist without Dawn or is it an altered memory? The Monks did this in an instant, as seen in the flashback. All those details in the blink of an eye. What seems more likely is if they used some kind of temporal fold; kind of like what Any tried doing in The Wish, to get her amulet back. In this case, they create a pocket of time where Hank and Joyce Summers had a second child, Dawn; and the subsequent 14 years actually played out until it caught up to the present and became the new reality. Dawn's bed is real, it's not a hallucination; yet Buffy could see it as the storage room it was without Dawn. What Buffy saw when she did the spell to see spells was the difference between those two histories.

She needs to go in as blind as possible since it’s a first time reaction. Be courteous and respect her wishes please. As far as the living near power lines thing goes, there can be some issues with exposure to EMFs (electromagnetic fields) but there’s no conclusive evidence to health issues. It’s a type of radiation which cellphones also emit. So the doctor’s questions aren’t totally crazy when diagnosing brain problems. They also didn’t know as much about it 25 years ago when this aired.
