Young lady, you need to watch some Dracula movies, or read the book. This whole episode was a loving spoof of the Dracula myth. The character of Dracula is inspired by (some would say based on) a real-life prince known as Vlad the Impaler. In the stories, Dracula can change shape into a bat and a wolf (werewolves are among his minions). He can also become a mist, climb walls like a spider and put people under his mental control. One of his most famous lackeys was a human known as Renfield who was driven insane and began eating bugs and other small creatures as a way to taste blood. Zander's whole shtick in this episode was a play on that. The three lady vampires in the pit room who were snacking on Giles are Dracula's famed "brides." In real life, in the 15th century, Vlad the Impaler was the son of Vlad the Dragon, or Vlad Dracul. The name "Dracula" literally means "son of the Dragon." So Dracula, aka the Impaler, spent much of his life fighting against the invading Ottoman Empire. There are lots of twists and turns to that story, including Dracula's brother supporting the Ottomans against him. Long story slightly less long, Vlad had a reputation for impaling captured enemies and criminals on poles and watching them die in agony while he feasted. Some people knock this episode, but I like it because it's just fun. BTW, in some of the comics, Dracula and Zander later become friends.

2025-05-22 01:11:00 +0000 UTCThis is the "sister" episode of Restless. It continues the same theme and even asks the same question. "You think you know, what you are, what's to come? You haven't even begun." It is not my favorite season opener. I think it is the worst episode of season 5 (and in the series imo) especially on the heels of my favorite episode Restless. But every episode in season 5 is a banger after this.
