IIRC on the Season 4 DVD there's something where Joss even said the show was never intended to be shot in widescreen and was always meant for that 4:3 aspect ratio. The Buffy HD Remasters (there's several good Youtube videos discussing it) are somewhat "infamous" for weird edits, certain parts of the scene actually getting cut off height wise changing the tone of the scene, crew being caught in scenes, wrong color grading, etc.

Buffy was originally shown in 4:3 aspect ration but modern streaming shows it in widescreen this means occasionally you see stuff that isn't supposed to be in the shot usually around the edges as it was never expected to be shown in anything but 4:3.
