WATCH ALONG: Mr. Holland's Opus

Hi friends - this was filmed and edited before I started offering Uncensored reactions so I don't have that to give you for this one. I'm very sorry about that.

But coming soon - I will be adding Angel series watch alongs! Only the watch along will be available until Angel wins the TV polls - which will be a long while. SO That is something exciting coming to only you!

WATCH ALONG: Mr. Holland's Opus

So, now that you've seen him like this, how do you like your Dreyfuss, Ashleigh? Old or young? LOL! I love this movie so much. I had to unsubscribe a while back because of money issues, but when I saw you'd reacted to this, I had to come back. I'll stay for as long as I can, and when I have to leave again, trust me, as soon as the finances allow, I'll come running back. What a great movie about a man's life. This film does a good job of compressing an entire life into 2 and a half hours, so good that I always feel as if I've lived a whole lifetime with Mr. Holland. It also has a beautiful message about how we never know the affect we have on others, and though we may not know what it is, we do all have a purpose. Most of us go our whole lives never knowing what that purpose is, but, if we're lucky, we discover it's the very thing we always wanted to do, even if we didn't know it. I hope you know your purpose, Ashleigh, because you already found it. You were meant to be here, with us, doing exactly this. I feel it every time you look into the camera, every time you speak to us. And when you think you haven't touched anyone's heart, know that you have. You have, and if this channel ever stops, you will be missed. Keep playing your music, Ashleigh. We are here. And we are listening.

There are very few perfect movies. This is one of them. There is not a second of screen time, nor a word out of place. The cast hits all the notes, without saying a word. I think what makes this movie so great is that it's _real_. Mr. Holland is not a perfect man, not in any way. His one true love was music, then God gives him a deaf son. He has to learn to love the son he has, not the one he wishes he had. Mr. Holland had real feelings for Rowena, but acted to gently point her in the right direction, without making her feel unloved. This is a real story, about real people. Being fiction doesn't make that untrue. BTW, that "cool car" was a Corvair. It was an infamous death trap (worse than the Ford Pinto), and the subject of Ralph Nader's book "Unsafe at Any Speed". This book started the regulation of automobile safety.

I love this movie so much! We have several music teachers in my family. My Uncle was my high school band director, and during the summers, he organized productions of different Broadway shows, that included actors/singers from kindergarten through 12th grade! I had a part on stage, up until I was old enough and skilled enough, to play in the pit orchestra! He taught at the high school for 44 years, and continued his summer productions up until 2023! We lost him to cancer in June of 2024. He inspired so much music in our family, and we miss him so deeply! This movie reminds me so much of him, and also my own experience in my high school music department! I was in the Concert Choir, I played Alto Sax in the Jazz band, Sousaphone (big Tuba) in the Marching Band, and the Oboe in the Orchestra! My husband is a drummer and was a Drum Major for his marching band, and our Son plays Alto Sax in Concert Band and Marching Band! I have 4 cousins who have been on Broadway and another cousin who sang 'The Star-Spangled Banner' before a Red Sox game at Fenway Park, in Boston! All 5 of them are my Uncle's kids! He inspired so many kids to love music, and he had an incredible talent to match anyone, with the right instrument for them! He was everyone's, Mr. Holland! I've watched this movie at least a hundred times, and I still cry every time! Music gets you through every part of your life... it's my soft spot to land, my comfort, and best friend! Ashleigh, thank you for such an awesome and very real reaction! This one hits you right in the feels! ♥♪♫♪♫

Hope she watches parenthood. It’s a good movie.

The girl who played Roweena Morgan is Jean Louisa Kelly... she also played Tia Russell in Uncle Buck (1989)! She has a small part in Top Gun: Maverick (2022)! I'm not going to tell you who she played in the movie, because I don't want to spoil anything! We're all still hoping you'll react to Top Gun: Maverick (2022)

For me, the best young Richard Dreyfuss film is American Graffiti. Impossible to edit for YouTube release, but a watch along would be magnificent. Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Cindy Williams, Paul Le Mat, Mackenzie Phillips, Charles Martin Smith, Candy Clark, Bo Hopkins, Wolfman Jack, and Harrison Ford. Directed by George Lucas; produced by Francis Ford Coppola, and one of the biggest-selling soundtrack albums of the 1970s. Three of the automobiles became as famous as the soon to be stars. You need this film.

Cliff Adams

One of my favorites there's a lot I could write about this, but I have to compose myself first.

Snacky Munchies

I was going to make this comment, but I didn't want the chat to throw garbage at me LOL.

Christine

One of my all time favorite movies. My best friend was even an extra in the ending part in the auditorium. I am glad you loved it!

Fran

I know, right? After watching 3 seasons of Buffy, I'm kinda scratching my head as to why Angel got a spin-off. I guess the WB was aiming for the teen girl market.

Joe Blankenship

Glad we get Angel

Cody Cameron

I'm honestly shocked Ashleigh is going to watch Angel (though I get it in a completionist sense), it's basically a spin-off of all of her least favorite characters lmao

JC

I am sure you have been given the Proper Angel/Buffy watch order as it is not always 1 then the other (definitely not by air date either). Can't wait.

Adam Doyle

One of my favorite movies.
