One of my favorite films from my adolescence. I really love the way this movie respects Lloyd. He's empathetic, mature, considerate, responsible, and deeply respectful and warm toward others, even people who don't think well of him.
I love that even the father's disrespect just washes right off of him. Lloyd doesn't let other people's bad behavior dictate who he is or how he responds. Lloyd especially contradicts the gross misogynistic nonsense that you hear from the idiots at the gas & sip. As Corey says, Lloyd isn't a guy, he's a man, and he absolutely deserves to get a girl like Diane Court, a girl who is deeply ethical, honest, brave, and intelligent. He's the one she actually can say anything to, because he's truly decent. They deserve their happy ending.

Ashleigh, $9,000 in 1988 according to Google would be about $24,000 today. And you had it right, the Dad was also the Dad in Frasier. Thanks for reacting to this, one of my favorite films!
