I saw this when I was 10-years old, and will never forget the impression of humanity & empathy I learned from it. Be kind everyone, be kind.

For John Hurt I'd suggest the 1984 filming of "Nineteen Eighty-Four," in which Hurt plays Winston Smith, the main character. It also stars Richard Burton.
However, a great John Hurt movie for Pride month would be "The Naked Civil Servant" (1975) which is based on the autobiography of Quentin Crisp. In the film Hurt plays Crisp, for which he won the BAFTA Best Actor Award.
And then the sequel, "An Englishman in New York" (2009) in which Hurt reprises his role as Quentin Crisp, could go on a Sequel Fridays poll.

Well this is interesting, the director of this movie (David Lynch) died only 10 days before the lead actor (John Hurt), not the same year of course, but yeah. You've seen John Hurt before by the way, he had an alien burst out his chest in Alien (and again in Spaceballs),and he played Olivander the wandmaker in the Harry Potter movies. Heck he's been in TONS of movies throughout his career. Not sure what movie of his i'd recommend to watch next, but I have seen "V For Vendtta" top a lot of lists.
