how's about another poll

As y'all know February not only about Valentine's Day; it is also Black History month - so I've gathered a few movies for you to vote on all different genres and even years.

Pick your favorite!

Comments

I love Hidden Figures. Also, it’s CARMEN Jones, not Cameron Jones. It’s George’s Bizet’s opera Carmen with an all black cast

Paula Barr

What about Hidden Figures? Did Ashleigh already do that one?

Todd Lower

Do the Right Thing is the most important film on this list.

Sally Haskell

I would definitely replace Glory with Mississippi Burning and I'd add To Kill a Mockingbird, A Time to Kill and Higher Learning

Missy Schmader

I'm glad you brought that up Mike well done

Missy Schmader

These are ok picks but I'd add a few at take a couple off we have so many good black movies that not a lot of reactors do

Missy Schmader

These are ok picks i guess but some are true story's against made up ones based on the culture I think they need separate polls

Missy Schmader

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Soul Food! An *excellent* movie!

ssb031

42. The Jackie Robinson Story. One of the best movies I've ever seen.

Matthew Maxon

You should just watch the first three, regardless of which wins. They are each important films that everyone should see at least once. Seriously, do each for February. I doubt too many would complain, and even if they did, they would be wrong.

Tony Rogers

I voted for it too. It’s a great movie.

nycDawn

I would call it loosely based on reality.

Cosmic Slice

Right??? Such a powerful movie.

Cosmic Slice

Can’t go wrong with Glory, Do The Right Thing, or Boyz n the Hood.

Jim Altman

Moonlight is a masterpiece. It challenges some audiences but broke a lot of barriers and won best picture for a reason. Keep it in mind for future polls. Glory is also amazing.

Lionbarber

She has watched Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, yes.

Tyler Foster

Not particularly surprising: at a glance, I see 4 Selma reactions on YouTube to 20 Glory reactions.

Tyler Foster

I haven't seen Do the Right Thing but I saw Siskel and Ebert praise it as a very important film and being absolutely shocked that it was ignored at the Oscars. Now I really want to see it.

Matthew Vandiver

I meeeeaannnn...the title alone should have been what directed everyone's voting finger, RIIIGGHT?😁

CinWin

Excellent list!

CinWin

COOLLEY HIGH

CinWin

FRIDAY is totally a must-see! As well as the sequels!

CinWin

You misspelled CARMEN JONES (1954)... based on the opera CARMEN. 😏 I think the ROOTS (1977) miniseries is also something you should consider.

AuntVes

I am surprised that "I'm Gonna Get You, Sucka!" or "Undercover Brother" aren't on the list.

R Kelly Coker

How is Selma losing a Black History Month poll? Lol. Lord....

Spocktacular

I saw in the Heat of the Night listed and I’d second that. Have you already done Guess Whose Coming to Dinner? It’s slow but epic

Saavik

it's rather lengthy but "Roots"1979

Steven Clem

Hollywood Shuffle (1987) would be a great addition to this poll.

Michael Buhl

Men of Honor starring Cuba Gooding Jr.

SnakeandNape

no its not. its what happened.

Leigh Nathaniel Silver

Please don’t do Glory even if it wins. It’s a white savior movie

Mike B

Please consider watching the movie "Amistad," from 1997.

Cindy Byrne

Do the Right Thing was our vote, but Boyz n the Hood was a close second. I would also say that Friday, while a comedy, has a great message that too often gets overlooked.

Cass&Jason

Considering the topic, Selma should be leading this by a long way. Not Glory.

Marcus

How about a couple of Sidney Poitier classics, All The Young Men and In The Heat Of The Night. A couple of of other classics would be A Soldiers Story starring Howard Rollins and Denzel Washington and Sergeant Rutledge starring Woody Strode who was also in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.

karl balstad

Men of Ho or would have been a good addition too. Just a suggestion

Leaf on the Wind

So the movie directed by a white guy is winning. Interesting...

_tragicmike

Not on the list but would love to see a reaction to Lean on Me with Morgan Freeman. (Based on a true story)

Christine

LOL Cameran Jones - Carmen. All great flicks, but I'm voting for Do The Right Thing.

Jassell B

Boyz in the Hood is so good!

MrBamaRed

I'm gonna suggest a movie made by black filmmakers and that's not about struggling. Spike Lee's School Daze, or Crooklyn or to keep it light I'm Gonna Get You Sucka.

djhyjak

Glory!

Charlie Heist

For a good black comedy they should add Uptown Saturday Night with Sidney Poitier.

Bill Bevins

I could see some people being offended if she were do to undercover brother for black history if it was her only movie for it. I am not one of those people cause the movie is hilarious but I can just see people getting offended

Elisa H.

Voted for Glory. A good movie for Black History Month would be Uptown Saturday Night. It's a comedy with Sidney Poitier.

Bill Bevins

Isn't that already on the channel ?

Elisa H.

Glory! For sure a great movie!

Gio Vidrio

Glory is one of my favorite films ever made.

Kristen

Do Glory as just like, a regular movie, or a war movie. Do a great film from one of the great black filmmakers (these others are great choices!) for Black History Month.

Chris

Regardless of the outcome of this poll, Do The Right Thing, Glory, and Boys n the Hood are all films that the channel should explore at some point, in the spirit of revisiting old and classic movies

Joseph Ricks

So Many Good Movies!!

Michael Parker

Agreed but the following week must be ‘white chicks’.

Kenn E Wayne

I’ve been waiting for you to start going down this rabbit hole. Higher Learning, poetic justice, drumline, house party, menace to society, the Friday franchise, save the last dance, and last but not least don’t be a menace while drinking your juice in the hood.

Kenn E Wayne

I was so confident I'd be in the majority what is happening 😭

JC

Missed opportunity to include Beverly Hills Cop

Omni

Tough but I *have* to go with Selma....the movie is too good to choose anything else.

Cosmic Slice

For me it's gotta be Do the Right Thing

JC

"Black History Month is an insult. You're going to relegate my history to a month... Also 'African-American' is an insult. I don't subscribe to that title. Black people have had different titles all the way back to the N-word and I do not know how these things get such a grip, but everyone uses 'African-American'." -- Morgan Freeman on "Black History Month".

Bryan Fritchie

At some point you might want to put Undercover Brother (comedy) into a poll. If you end up doing a 2nd Black History Month poll, it would be a good candidate.

Sir Friendzone

Tough choices. All great.
