They existed before him, which we kind of knew from the prior flashback about his birth. Now we see him becoming the father of all Quincies involved conquest of all Quincies.

2024-12-24 00:09:36 +0000 UTCThe flashback takes place long before Yhwach invaded the soul society and lost to Yamamoto. Once the quincies lost, they retreated to that shadow dimension that is mirroring the soul society where apparently time doesn't flow the same way it did for them in the world of the living (which is where this entire flashback takes place and more specifically since 'Northern Territories' were mentioned as well as the aesthetic, i'd assume Europe. This is why Bazz-B, Haschwalth, and any quincy that spends time in that shadow dimension ages very slowly, and since it exists alongside the soul society, it's pretty safe to assume time passes by just as slowly.
