2024-07-31 09:21:38 +0000 UTCIchigo tell’s Zangetsu “I won’t ask you to lend me your strength anymore.”, Say’s to Hollow Ichigo “I won’t tell you to stay out of my way, either.”, And say’s, “And I won’t ask you guys to fight alongside me”, …because Ichigo know’s he doesn’t NEED to anymore, because with his Zanpakutō being a physical extension of his soul, he and Zangetsu will always fight as one! Which is why Ichigo say’s he’ll “fight on his own”; Ichigo and his zanpakutō have always been a single being. Zangetsu (Quincy) and Zangetsu (Hollow) is a representation of who he “is”, hence, “The Blade “IS” Me”.

They realized when they went to his house after Yammy and ulquiorra visited The Human world but they didn't bother out of respect for him according to Kubo answering a fan question about that. Also That wound on Ishida's Grandmother's leg was from a hollow similarly to Masaki's injury but she was treated yet the Pure Ishida Bloodline was still "tainted" after that so that's why Ishida doesn't have an Aunt or uncle. Also I'm side eyeing Urahara considering the Vaccine to stop hollowfication requires a human soul AND that special Gigai regarding a soul as well 😭 Also if you have the Blu-ray version of this season of Bleach, Yhwach looks identical to Old man Zangetsu during the flashbacks to his fight with Yamamoto

Obv Ichigos character journey isn’t over yet, but this is a huge milestone of self love and acceptance that he’s been struggling with since he got his powers, and more deeply, since his mother was killed by a hollow. Super excited for the next eps.

2024-07-26 05:10:50 +0000 UTCJust to explain the relationship between a shinigami and their zanpaktou in case you don't fully grasp it (I know I didn't on my first read); Generally speaking the oldest shinigami are the strongest and that's because they are the ones that have had the most amount of time to create that bond between themselves and the spirit. Now if you recall back to what Oetsu said, a zanpaktou spirit is formed by a shinigami imprinting their soul onto an empty zanpaktou. So a zanpaktou spirit is simply a reflection of one's self, "getting closer" to your zanpaktou spirit is more akin to accepting yourself for who you are. So when we see Ichigo saying "It doesn't matter to me who you are, you are both Zangetsu to me" it's Ichigo finally accepting what he is fully, something that we've seen not only Ichigo struggle with but many of the Shinigami in Soul Society struggle with the entire series. And then when Ichigo says the line "You are me, the blade is me" it's Ichigo recognizing that there is no Zanpaktou spirit, there's just himself, Zangetsu is a reflection of himself. In the Bleach community we refer to this as a "The Blade is Me" moment. There are only two Shinigami (one being Ichigo, the other happens in CFYOW) that we see have this epiphany but we can assume that all of Squad Zero have most likely had it and possibly the older captains.

So his Zanpakuto was the hollow all along, but Ichigo thought that his hollow was the anomaly and that old man Zangetsu was his real Zanpakuto. Because he now understands his origins, he thinks of both as Zangetsu, which gave him the two blades. I’ll be patiently waiting for the second cour 💕
