And the best thing to come out of Vatican II...Tom Lehrer's The Vatican Rag(1965).

Matthew Vandiver

I've not seen the other version so I don't know how well they stuck to the plot/story, but I'm sorry this one doesn't and went for a cheesy ending. I'd've preferred something that followed along the storyline of involving the Warrens and all that sort of thing.

Rumpus Parable

Actual scary movies not on polls this year. The Descent. #1 with a bullet. As scary as The Exorcist, Alien or The Thing. May have given Ashliegh a cardiac arrest. Near Dark (A mini-Aliens reunion) 28 Weeks Later Pitch Black Barbarian Return of the Living Dead Dawn of the Dead remake (2004) Invasion of the Body Snatcher (1978) Creature from the Black Lagoon The Mist Salem's Lot (1979) Cujo Sleepaway Camp (1983) Dawn of the Dead (1978) Other than taking place in a mall they are essentially two very different films. You could watch them back-to-back and not be bored. Day of the Dead (1985) And a few fun but not that scary Dark Shadows (2012) The Ghost and Mr. Chicken House (1985) And that's all I've got to say about that.

TheSingulatarian

Listen to me when I say Insidious would make Ashleigh watch Disney afterwards. 🀣

Gio Vidrio

Yeah, let's get some ACTUALLY SCARY movies on these Hallobeans. Like people voted for Fright Night instead of Insidious or Talk to Me. Fright Night isn't a scary movie. Ashleigh wants to be SCARED, y'all! (I'm not directing this at you, just agreeing with you.)

Jacob Colson

Anyone gonna mention The Conjuring 2 for next Hallobeans?

Gio Vidrio

Vatican II (1962-1965) was a large conference to discuss important matters of the church. The previous conference was held in 1870. Vatican II was responsible for a number of "modernizations" of church process and doctrine, to make things more accessible/inclusive to a populace that was rapidly becoming more secular (non-religious). These changes included allowing mass to be conducted in local languages (instead of only in Latin), having the priest face the congregation (while reciting liturgy and performing the blessing of the Eucharist), and the role of lay people in the church, among a number of other things. The comment about it in the movie is basically saying "I thought you were a modern/grounded guy, but now you're talking about spooky old-timey myths and legends as if it were real. Are you ... ok dude?"

I had only ever seen the remake of this. That one was kinda interesting just because it was Ryan Reynolds playing against type in a horror movie. This one has that classic 1970s "is this movie ever going to end?" feel to it. Probably won't ever bother to watch it again.

Joe Blankenship

Never saw this. It's meh at best. I'm totally looking forward to Fright Night next Sunday. πŸ‘»

Yeah, this one is cheesy and over the top. It is based on a real life murder that happened in Long Island and the story of that family and what took place in the house while they lived there is far scarier a concept to me. All in all, I am in agreement, Ashleigh. This is one of those "classic" horror movies from the seventies and eighties that left me feeling "meh" at the end of it. There are a few of them for me :) But I will say the Exorcist isn't one of them. That one does effectively freak me out to this day. (Oh and the Amityville remake sucks too, honestly)

Renee S

There's a movie; no need for me to read, lmao. Sorry. I'm not a book person. At all.

The Warrens did memorably/infamously do an investigation at the location in 1976. This was later the basis for The Conjuring 2.

David Hunter

In real life the story is related to the Warrens from The Conjuring, they investigated the house for the family living there

I'm really glad Ashleigh added Wednesdays for watching things. I would suggest watching movies more than tv shows for the new year, since there seems to be a low turn-out with polls and comments for tv shows. A fellow Patreon user had a very good suggestion! He suggested that Wednesdays become "Way back Wednesdays" celebrating movies that were made pre-1970. There are so many great films that can be incorporated into that group!

Meredith Shivers

Amityville was never that scary.

TheSingulatarian

Margot Kidder(R.I.P.) was Lois Lane in the Superman movies.

Richard Stegman Jr.

It’s not related to anything. It’s spawned two theatrically released(one is a prequel, other a cash grab in 3-D) and numerous made for video and TV cash grabs.

Richard Stegman Jr.

I've been looking forward to this one - this is a classic!

Neil Silverman

Ma Bell is ATT when the phone company used to be a monopoly.

TheSingulatarian

Then read the book. It was much scarier.

TheSingulatarian

This movie is cursed. Margot Kidder went crazy and James Brolin was forced to live with Barbra Streisand.

TheSingulatarian

That cop was a slacker.

TheSingulatarian

I am ready to crap my pants.
