FRANCHISE FRIDAY POLL

I know it's early for thinking about September but I'm activity working on my work flow on how to be ahead and stay ahead - especially before hallobeans so!

Whatcha want on Fridays in September?

Comments

It's obvious that the old monster movies are not going to win. Do them in October for Hallobeans. Also Don Knotts in The Ghost and Mr. Chicken.

Bruce Devine

Muppets Treasure Island and Muppets From Space! Treasure Island is a straight up musical BOP and Muppets From Space makes me cry 😆 so I know Ashleigh will!!!

Pandora Brown

I think Ashleigh wants to adopt Sweetums. He is lovable.

Mr Marvelous

"WUTI" is incredible, one-of-a-kind work from her...

Chris Carman

Absolutely, great emotional films, all through her long life...

Chris Carman

The classic monsters are called Universal monster movies. That includes King Kong and every monster you seen in Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein.

Mr Marvelous

I think it's a good idea as long as it is made clear that the movie is nothing like the TV show.

Vicious Trollop

I just came here to write about her passing. Gena Rowlands was simply amazing. I loved her in every movie of hers that I've watched. I recently watched Woman Under the Influence and she is absolutely brilliant in it. I have a feeling that we'll be watching The Notebook on the channel (which I love!) but I hope Ashleigh will dive into the rest of her catalog somewhere down the line.

Vicious Trollop

Okay, I do really want to see Ashleigh watch more Muppets. That said, I had to vote for the Universal monster flicks just because I want to see that percentage go as high as possible. I think it would be a hoot to see Ashleigh was Creature from the Black Lagoon!

Snow Goon

Such a hard choice!

Brad Hicks

A brief check of IMDB leads me to believe that we all need to go grab three boxes of kleenex and prepare for "The Notebook". And in answer to your question, Ashleigh, yes you will cry.

Curtis Martin

New to the channel (though I've enjoyed Ashleigh's reactions on YT for more than a minute). I know she often does retrospectives for the recently departed, so I gotta mention: quite arguably the GREATEST actress who EVER lived--- Gena Rowlands--- left us today.

Chris Carman

I like my Fridays shaken, not stirred 🤵🍸

CapitalEffyou

Would I be crazy to suggest that Ashleigh watch the 1992 film "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" with Kristy Swanson just to fill in the backstory for her watch along of the TV series. Not a franchise I know, but Ash keeps asking what the deal with her old highschool is... What do you guys think?

Nocke Devilkyn

I like that you limited your selection to 5 choices.

Susan Holly

The original Muppets trilogy are the best of the bunch.

Travis Taylor

Andromeda Strain would be an interesting experiment….

Travis Taylor

Hi Ashleigh, the Classic Monster films are certainly deserving of your attention, after all they started the whole genre for you to have Hallobeans. It would also be interesting to see you react to the Hammer Horror series of films. (Christopher Lee & Peter Cushing, in particular) As suggested by Emilee Orf, for a change of pace, I`d like to see you react to the comedy/horror films by Abbot & Costello. :)

Long-time Sci-Fi Enthusiast

The only reason I mentioned Westworld is because it doesn’t wear out its welcome with an endless glut of bad sequels, unlike JP.

Chelsea

If we are doing that then we should just do all the Michael Crichton movies…. Good and horrible.

Travis Taylor

Not attacking voters, just clarifying that Ashleigh HAS seen the OG Jurassic Park. Dis just be da sequels

Michael Tocci

I’d say if she enjoys the rest of the Muppets, she should check out Emmet Otter’s Jugband Christmas for the holiday season

Mike C

All are great picks! Hard to vote just one haha.

Brittany Winter

Also, if you ever get the chance to see any of these movies in a theater with live musical accompaniment you should absolutely do so! There are a few musical groups the score original pieces for these movies, and experiencing them live is almost always incredible! (I realize this doesn't help Ashleigh with her channel, but I'm still recommending it.)

Michael Buhl

And instead of watching the absolutely terrible JP sequels, I recommend you watch the 1973 film Westworld (and maybe that movie’s own sequel). It’s a script written by Jurassic Park’s author about a theme park populated with androids instead of dinosaurs.

Chelsea

Honestly, though, I hope you continue with The Muppets and James Bond, but I voted for Classic Monsters, because they're just iconic!

Shawn Ravenfire

Can I vote for "all of the above?"

Shawn Ravenfire

I hope you get to the Classic Universal Monster films for Holobeans. My personal favorites are the three Frankenstein films starring Boris Karloff. Frankenstein Bride of Frankenstein (my favorite) Son of Frankenstein.

Herby Ragan

I thought Ashliegh already watched Frankenstein or am I mixing her up with someone else?

TheSingulatarian

I hope Hunger Games gets added to a future franchise poll. Not sure what to vote for here. Part of me says to keep going with the Muppets, but the OG monster movies are so good. HallowBeans is just around the corner, though. I really only liked the first Jurassic Park and MiB only has 3 good films. And I've only watched one Bond movie in my life; not really a fan of spy movies in general. Decisions, decisions!

Cass&Jason

Let's see: there's Caper, Manhattan, Treasure Island, and Space? That would cover the 4 Fridays. And that Jason Segel "The Muppets" is pretty good, but maybe ought to see "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" before doing that one.

Joe Blankenship

You already started the Muppets, so just keep going. Then do JP movies.

Robert Miller

These films are amazing, and if you don't take a film class or have someone tell you about them, you may never even hear about them!

Jennifer Russell

I said MIB because it has a little more emotional weight than the other films. It’s easily digestible and arguably gets better with each film, as opposed to a few films in the other series that get casually chosen to be forgotten or omitted (like some are saying in the comments).

ERAUPRCWA

I voted for the Muppets since you’re clearly enjoying the series, but I really hope you end up including their worthwhile tv specials like The Muppet Family Christmas (the unedited version that includes Sesame Street is on YouTube), The Muppets Go to Disney World, and The Muppets Celebrate Jim Henson (also freely available to watch on YouTube). All three are fun, even if the last one can be heartbreaking. The Universal Monsters is worth watching for a Hallobeans month, especially since they really were the first established universe with a continuity (as loosely as I can use the word) even predating the MCU and home video. Unfortunately, while you’d already seen the final movie in the series which was the Abbott and Costello film, you don’t know the events that lead up to how Dracula knows the Frankenstein monster, or why the Wolf Man is so hellbent on taking Drac out.

Chelsea

I love the Muppets but the only problem is when Jim Henson died and Disney took over, the movies weren’t as good so everything from The Muppets Wizard of Oz and after is not the same.

EJN

Yeah, Universal Monsters is the best choice and it will never win a poll. It has to be a decision Ashleigh makes for herself. I vote for Ashleigh's Choice Day and just let her picjk what takes her fancy, old, new, poll winner, poll loser, whatever.

The Goateed Geek

I think the older monster movies would be a break from the others. Mix it up.

R Kelly Coker

You need to watch the 1st Jurassic Park, and Jurassic world is interesting, but seeing your response to the Muppet Movie, I suggest watching more of those.

Adam Doyle

Again I would suggest the best version of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde from 1931

Ted Little

The classic Universal monster movies (Frankenstein, Dracula, The Mummy, etc.) are well worth watching, but I hope that one day you will get around to watching some of the silent horror movies. They are visually sunning! The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror (1922, the original vampire movie) The Man Who Laughs (1928, an inspiration for the Joker in the Batman comics) The Golem (1920, an inspiration for the Frankenstein creature) Faust (1926)

Michael Buhl

They are actually quite enjoyable films, especially The Muppets, but they need some space. The priority should be: The Great Muppet Caper The Muppets Take Manhattan Muppet Treasure Island Muppets from Space.

Curtis Martin

Watching The Universal Monsters can easily become a dry, academic task. That said, the basics are informative. Again this year, I would recommend a double feature of Frankenstein/Bride of Frankenstein. They are both short and play as one movie.

Curtis Martin

I'm a big fan of For Your Eyes Only.

Lynette Cummins

the JP's get bad...fast

Michael Parker

YES! :) Bond, James Bond!

Michael Parker

Then Happy Time Murders!

Michael Parker

Moonraker certainly has the most impressive skydiving stunt of the entire franchise.

TheSingulatarian

I'm taking Jurassic Park because the second sequel is my favorite I love the original but the second is my favorite

Katastrophic

Muppets, but skip to the two modern ones!

Graham Martin

Man, I'd be happy with any of these to be honest, but I threw my vote in for Muppets just because they are fun. The Monster movies should definitely be saved for Hallowbeans tho.

Spocktacular

Wow, Muppets again? That and Jurassic Park? I guess JP would be better if I never read the book (no comparison)

Weird

Great list! Love these movies. I'm hoping in a future Franchise Friday poll you'll add the Star Trek films.

James Sharp

Mama Mia. The man is very handsome but my god he can't sing a note. Why they didn't overdub him is beyond me. It is a time-honored Hollywood tradition.

TheSingulatarian

Once you do watch the classic monster movies, highly recommend Abbot and Costello meet them! Classics

Emilee Orf

cannot wait for Ashleigh to get a load of you-know-who in that movie (rot13 - Gvz Pheel)

Charity Konusser (the chonus)

Jurassic Park, meh. The sequels are of increasing diminishing quality. Classic Universal Monsters. Bride of Frankenstein and Son of Frankenstein are essential. You will get a lot more jokes from Young Frankenstein if you watch those. A double feature of the original Nosferatu (It is pretty short) and Shadow for the Vampire from 2000. You can't go wrong will Malkovich and Defoe. The original Dracula is a classic. Freaks is a great movie. Get a little elevated and put your editor on overtime. The Invisible Man is very funny, and the effects are very impressive for the 1930s. The Creature from the Black Lagoon is a prerequisite for Del Toro's Oscar winning The Shape of Water.

TheSingulatarian

Muppets Take Manhattan!!!!!

Jassell B

After a short break I'm ready for Bond again! Can't wait for The Spy and Moonraker, in some way Bonds finest: completely bananas and over the top :D However Jurassic and Men in Black are so much fun too! Don't get the Muppets though, I can remember begging my parent for months to get the Christmas Carol when I was 8 or so... but never really cared for it ever again. Didn't know it was still so popular, tricky, so many people with such different childhood memories... ah well I'm sure it's gonna be fun either way!

davidov

I'm voting for the Muppets to get to Muppets Take Manhattan - my favorite Muppet movie :)

Lynnetta

Honestly, this might be the best idea.

Jeb Manning

Universal Monsters for HallowBeans!!! Muppets in September

Tony Camarena

The Jurassic Park sequels are OKay, but I feel like none of them ever really captured the same magic the original did.

Jeb Manning

God this one is really hard. I basically have to choose between The Muppets, which I want, and The Universal Monster movies, which I really want.

Jeb Manning

Lord, now I have to bounce back and forth between the Muppets and men in black

Elisa H.

Oooooh I like all of these!

Alijammy

Okay - tough one... because I love all of these... but dinos had to win... even though the first two sequels are "meh"

Michael McSwiney

I voted Jurassic Park because I haven't seen those sequels in a loooong time, but I'd really love to see the Bourne movies on a future poll

JC

Nature finds a way!

Mason Peatross

Definitely the Muppets. Muppet Treasure Island is one of my absolute favorites.

Andy H.

I love poll day. 😊 I'm voting for James Bond so Ashleigh can get to Pierce Brosnan. ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 She was very specific on her live last week. She wants to see more of him so we need to work our way through Roger Moore and Timothy Dalton.

Lynette Cummins

You have to watch more muppets, they are such a joy to watch

Thomas

Really? The Muppets winning??

Kelby Farley

I would suggest Rocky, going into Creed

Omar Anzaldua

Muppets

James
