I just finished watching the edit version, MASH is like about the juxtaposition of horror of war and operating on human beings (boys/soldiers) in the field versus the shenanigans they had to do to cope with the insanity of the situation. And... it's a peek into the logistics of war and the supply/requisitions game(?) It's a bit like "Monty Python" but while being in the Korean War. I think Ashleigh would be a minor legend for reacting to it. I guess I'd like to see how it does on YT. No, it is not a typical comedy, it is labeled a "black comedy" which is being funny on top of tragic or distressing subject - i.e. death/war. Death not in a funny way but being funny while being death-adjacent. But not morbid comedy, not so much.

2024-07-21 21:06:03 +0000 UTCThe lyrics for the song "Suicide in Painless" were written by the (then) 14 year old son of the director. Altman has said his son has earned more from his royalities for writing the lyrics than he did for directing the movie. Gary Burghoff was the only movie cast member who reprised their role in the TV series. The TV series actually ran for longer than the Korean war did in real life.
