You've probably learned by now that the bad guy in this movie is the same guy that played Robin of Loxley in Robin Hood - Men in Tights.
Being a weather hobbyist, I stopped on my way home from vacation out west last fall, at the memorial for the Twistex Team just outside of El Reno, OK. It's mostly open fields there, but it is absolutely flat. Most of the damage had been cleaned up/repaired. There were some gnarled trees still standing. It was kind of eerie standing there and thinking what it must have been like that dreadful day.
You remarked about the tornado's path at the end of the movie. Of course that's just CGI. But I remember after the night of the killer tornadoes in 2011, there were several paths like that down in Alabama. I've always been cautious about weather, and am a trained weather spotter for the NWS. I live in a double wide, so the first thing I had done was get a storm shelter. They make them in Jackson, TN (between Nashville and Memphis). It's basically a septic tank with a front door. My parents, my late wife, our dog, and myself spent the night in that storm shelter. It was not a good night.
But, I just thought that I'd leave you with a couple of things:
1. A tornado is like a redneck divorce. Somebody, somewhere is losing a trailer.
2. The safest place to be during a tornado is a mobile home factory. A tornado is not going to bite the hand that feeds it.
Also, you mentioned the sound track to the movie several times. I stumbled across this while looking for something else. It's a list of songs during the movie, and when they are played. You're welcome! ;)

I HATE this movie so much. I also LOVE it. Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt are terrible actors in this. Still I love it.

Yeah you did recognize some of the actors. "Rabbit" (the guy with the maps) also played "Cameron" in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. And Phillip Seymour Hoffman has a ton of movies to his credit. His last ones were as Plutarch (the last Game Maker & Rebel PR guy) in the Hunger Games series. :)
