See, I've always thought that interpretation didn't quite go deep enough. The original enchantment (born of Pedro's sacrifice) sealed the Madrigals and the villagers off from the outside world and granted them magical "gifts" to protect them and give them time to process and recover from their trauma. By the time of Mirabel's ceremony, 40 years had passed and (especially as far as Abuela Alma believed) the community had come to rely on those gifts to sustain them - and when the main story starts 10 years later, those gifts were causing harm to those granted them. For my money, the reason the candle dimmed and Mirabel's door disappeared was less to do with transfer of magic than it was the enchantment realising that the way the gifts were being treated was becoming unhealthy and that Mirabel's innate abilities meant she was the one to break the cycle.

This is hands down my favorite Disney movie. I relate to Mirabel so so much and I cry every time I watch this. I'm so glad you watched it

The best theory I've seen is that the miracle picked Mirabel to be the next miracle holder and head of the family after Abuela. The reason the door vanished and the candle dimmed at her ceremony was the miracle transferring power into Mirabel to restart the magic in the future. In the meantime, being the only 'muggle' in a magical family gave her the motivation to learn a ton of other things, and helped her develop empathy for people without gifts and for the fears and issues of her magical relatives pressured to be perfect. The one I really feel bad for is Delores. Can you imagine having hearing like that in a house with two lovey-dovey couples that have 4 kids younger that you are? Holy mole`!
