*FIXED AUDIO* Space Odyssey

thank you allllll for letting me know that my audio was messed up in the review. :)
FWIW, most audiences didn't really understand the movie. I've read that Clarke wrote the novelization in order to explain the movie. (I've only read the short story, which is essentially just the scene on the Moon with the obelisk. In that story, aliens put it on the Moon to detect when humans gained spaceflight. But with no answer to whether they would arrive to help or destroy us.)
What I mostly remember about its theatrical run is that shrooms and acid were considered the right "snacks" to have for the movie. I was a S.F. geek, so I liked it fine in my unaltered state.

…???…???…???……………WHAT???!!!!
-5/5 from me. One of the worst wastes of my time when I watched this a few months ago.

Stunning. Simply stunning reaction, Ashleigh. Bravo. Seen most of your reactions, this is easily the best. Elevated or not, I really enjoyed your insights. Very curious what you would think of the sequel 2010.

Yeah, I think I would've liked to see her unelevated reaction first...then compare the elevated. I kinda feel like the music was what earned her 5 star appreciation.

This film, along with another film released in 1968 was responsible for reviving big budget epic science fiction for generations to come...the other 1968 film was "Planet of the Apes" which would also be a great reaction subject

I wonder if she'll ever get to Dr. Strangelove! I think that movie's sense of humor will hit her funny bone.

Around 30:03...."So don't stop me now / don't stop me / 'Cause I'm having a good time having a good time // I'm a shooting star leaping through the skies like a tiger defying the laws of gravity / I'm a racing car passing by like Lady Godiva / I'm gonna go go go / There's no stopping me..."

Normally, I'm right there with and frown on the idea of needing to be "elevated" to enjoy a movie, but in this case, I'll take it, if it keeps this masterpiece off Ashleigh's trash heap with "E.T." and "The Godfather".

As always, enjoyed watching your reaction to this. Though you watching it "elevated" I think helped you enjoy it. Other elevated movie reviews would not be my first choice for you, but you do you baby. I'm just a stick-in-the-mud old lady who's never been elevated. Just not my thing, but seriously no judgement. I've never cared for this film. And though unpopular, I think it is one of the most boring movies I've ever seen. Still love you to pieces Ashleigh, keep up your great content.

Full Metal Jacket is not exactly what I'd classify as a walk in the park, either lol

Great reaction...love it when a film truly resonates with you! Can't go wrong with Stanley Kubrick you should also check out "Dr. Strangelove", "Full Metal Jacket" and "A Clockwork Orange"(although be warned that one can be a little traumatic)

The computer is HAL 9000. If you move each letter forward in the alphabet by one, you get I, B, M. This is a subtle reference to the IBM mainframe computers that were running the world at the time this movie was made.
Also, the tune "Daisy" (from 1892) was the first piece of music ever played by a computer. As it happens, that was an IBM 704, and it used speech synthesis to sing this song in 1961. So as HAL is having its memory removed, it's regressing to its earliest memories.

Back in 1968, I would bring first dates to this movie. If the girls showed the joy and enthusiasm you did, I would ask them out again. Worked out great and saved us both a lot of potential ‘spinning wheels’ time….

if the us had kept funding NASA like they did in the cold war we might be at this point the ending is him being evolved so he could talk to the creators of the monoliths also hall wasnt desined to solve complex moral problems he had two directives protect the crew at all cost ensure the success of the mission at all costs

Was so expecting you to hate this one. It definitely is an acquired taste and I can only wonder what your reaction would have been unelevated, but alas....
