Sequels Poll
Added 2023-01-17 19:00:11 +0000 UTCGuess who just saw that January has one more Monday that I haven't filled yet - ME! (1/30)
So let's check out some sequels again!
Moving forward - regarding all movies (unless otherwise specially requested from MMMembers) - I will be watching the theatrical version, as it seems that is what the majority of people have access to; whether it be DVDs or streaming platforms. Just an FYI.
Because, from an editing stand point, some films have bigger chunks of differences (which is easy for me to edit) and some have many smaller parts thru out the movies (like Harry Potter) that make it impossible for me to edit down to match up even remotely close to the theatrical versions.
Comments
If you are considering and films for Black History Month in February, let me make a couple of suggestions that are must sees in any film repertoire...The Color Purple and Amistad. Amistad is a true story that really should be taught in every American History class.
2023-01-22 03:28:53 +0000 UTCHonestly , if you have already started Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings, you need to see all of them. They are not mearly sequels, they are a continuation of a story.
2023-01-22 03:24:53 +0000 UTCWhen I first signed up to support Ashleigh, I accidentally found an Excel sheet with a list of watched movies, I think it was through a Google Search link. I'm sure she talked about the watched video list once or twice after I found it. I can't find a place on Ashleigh's Patreon pages to click to go to that list. The lower two tiers does not have "exclusive content" listed as a perk. I signed up for one of the lower tiers. I'm guessing the watched video list may be one of the perks for giving $20 a month or more.
2023-01-20 21:00:42 +0000 UTCI forgot to mention my sister who didn't like LOTR was watching the extended version. This situation reminds me of a time when I was discussing the Star Trek tv shows with someone. After I mentioned that Deep Space Nine was too "dark" for me (meaning they didn't use enough light in some scenes for my taste), the guy suddenly started yelling at me because of my opinion. We are not trying to prove you wrong to get "brownie points." Opinions are not misinformation. An example of misinformation would be if someone says that more people requesting Ashleigh to watch the extended version is evidence that newbies would like the longer version better. The same goes for listening to people on the internet who are already LOTR fans saying the longer version is better for newbies; that is not proof they would like it better.
2023-01-20 20:26:16 +0000 UTCI am a big fan of LOTR and have the DVD box set of the extended version that I watch at least once a year. I want Ashleigh to love it also which is why I am basing my suggestion of the shorter version because she said she wasn't a fan so I thought the shorter version would be better for her. My sister started watching LOTR (not with me) and she stopped watching it because "there were so many scenes of people running to get somewhere."

2023-01-20 18:18:43 +0000 UTCFor me: 1 JP 2 Rocky 3 LOTR 4 LW 5 HP 6 Gremlins 7 Airplane 2
2023-01-20 13:51:41 +0000 UTCJurassic Park 2 isn't "Meh". The series turns "meh" beginning with 3. JP2 just isn't the classic the original is. Airplane 2 is the meh one.
2023-01-20 13:26:59 +0000 UTCA shame JP2 isn't voted more. I know it has no shot vs LOTR or HP but it's my favorite here besides Rocky 3. Only 4%...dang
2023-01-20 13:22:44 +0000 UTCThe lack of self awareness, to comment on my supposed lack of self awareness, is hilarious. You've been chasing me around this comments section, throwing out childish insults, telling me how "toxic" I supposedly am, every since I made a post unfavorably comparing HP to LotR. Get over it, move on, and quit stalking me.
Richard Maurer
2023-01-20 11:33:31 +0000 UTCGreat, now I have two stalkers following me. Go away creeps!
Richard Maurer
2023-01-20 11:28:03 +0000 UTCYou..... Telling me to grow up. Lmao. That's fucking rich buddy. There is a king of the butthurt in this comment section and it's not me. It's the guy who felt the need to throw a tantrum about LOTR on every single comment possible. Christ. Do you have any self awareness at all. Self obsession yes, self awareness.... Apparently not.
Spocktacular
2023-01-20 01:50:48 +0000 UTCLol. Agreed. I haven't seen someone act this idiotic over a fandom in some time. It's entertaining at least.
Spocktacular
2023-01-20 01:47:57 +0000 UTCWhenever Ashleigh reacts to the theatrical version of The Two Towers, I hope she dedicates it to this obsessed manchild.
Michael Butler
2023-01-20 01:29:08 +0000 UTCNo, you misunderstood, even though I made it pretty clear. So I'll say it again - I don't care about YOUR OPINION. Stop being a crybaby because I called out HP for what is, a rip-off. The fact that you think I was trying to "force" anyone speaks volumes about you. I give my opinion - strongly - and if it upsets people like you too bad.
Richard Maurer
2023-01-20 00:47:47 +0000 UTCAll I know is I made a number of comments, most of which weren't directed at you, but you felt the need to comment on almost everything I wrote and insult me in every one, Definity creepy behavior, I don't care if you think I'm a bully or a dick or whatever - I'll write whatever I want. So be butthurt all you want - don't care. GROW UP.
Richard Maurer
2023-01-20 00:38:39 +0000 UTCI'm amused that you think I'm worked up into some kind of rage. Please... I just see someone being a dick and feel obligated to say something. Stop being a fandom bully. It's really fucking sad.
Spocktacular
2023-01-19 22:25:54 +0000 UTCPeople like you always care. If you didn't care you wouldn't be on here trying to force everyone into having the same viewpoint as you.....
Spocktacular
2023-01-19 22:24:18 +0000 UTCYou've gone around to every comment I've made to attack me but I'm the psycho. Riiiiiight. If my comments keep pushing you over the edge maybe you should just stop reading them.
Richard Maurer
2023-01-19 22:12:38 +0000 UTCThat would bother me if I actually gave a fuck about your opinion.
Richard Maurer
2023-01-19 22:08:28 +0000 UTCShe puts things on the polls based on suggestions in the comments... Not what she "wants" to watch. You really are a psycho. Just accept that LOTR isn't for everyone and move on with your life. Your comments are super toxic and ridiculous.
Spocktacular
2023-01-19 21:30:04 +0000 UTCGatekeeping is never necessary. Only toxic ass fans would say that. People are allowed to like what they like. Get over yourself, you aren't the be all end all of LOTR. You are just coming off as controlling and hateful and sad.
Spocktacular
2023-01-19 21:27:53 +0000 UTCThe sequels poll takes away from seeing more stand alone films; plus a lot of sequels aren't nearly as good as the first, and they are just a waste of time and energy.
Meredith Shivers
2023-01-19 20:44:46 +0000 UTCHarry Potter and LotR are mandatory. Airplane 2 is just a rehash of all the old jokes, Rocky 3, and Lethal Weapon 3 are ok - nothing to write home about, but Rocky 3 has Mr. T in it, and you need to know who Mr T is (pity the fool who doesn't), and it gets you to Rocky 4, and that's the best thing about it. Jurassic Park 2, and Gremlins 2 are meh.
SCSponge
2023-01-19 20:43:32 +0000 UTCYes, sometimes gatekeeping is needed, because so many here who obviously are not fans love to give their "expert" opinions on what version to watch. In fact I've seen people who have said they aren't fans later weigh in on it, of course on the theatrical side. If you're not a fan stay out of it, which version watched is none of your concern.
Richard Maurer
2023-01-19 18:38:39 +0000 UTCGood thing you are here to gatekeep who the "real fans" are.... Christ....
Spocktacular
2023-01-19 11:36:27 +0000 UTCNot until she watches a Cary Grant film first. I really want her to enjoy one of the long running gags. Bringing up Baby would be a delightful ValenBeans movie. So would the Philadelphia Story!
Curtis Martin
2023-01-19 10:33:19 +0000 UTCWell, some the people in this comments section certainly worked hard to convince Ashleigh and everyone else that she didn't like Fellowship both before and after she watched it. If Ashleigh really didn't want to watch it she wouldn't be putting it on polls. It's telling that she didn't like Godfather, and Godfather II doesn't show up on these sequel polls.
Richard Maurer
2023-01-19 09:36:53 +0000 UTCI can only believe that the people who promote the theatrical version of LotR aren't real fans, but have some other agenda. No dedicated fan of LotR I've known or talked to on the internet has ever promoted the theatricals over the extended. In fact, this comments section is the only place I've seen where there is a concerted effort to promote watching the theatricals. To this point, recently Cassie at Popcorn in Bed decided to watch LotR with her sister, who had never seen it. They put out that they were likely going to watch the theatricals as her sister doesn't like long movies. Well, nearly 100% of the response was that they should really watch the extendeds, which they did, and which of course her sister loved. I really don't know why this comments section promotes the theatricals, but my best guess is that because Ashleigh has said in the past that she doesn't like long movies, so most of the people promoting them are trying to white knight Ashleigh and gets some brownie points if they can "prove" they were right all along.
Richard Maurer
2023-01-19 09:29:33 +0000 UTCMisinformation? It's an opinion that's different from yours. Believe it or not, the Internet's full of that sort of thing.
Michael Butler
2023-01-19 05:04:24 +0000 UTCi would say lotr but the first one was clearly not the right cup of tea - like if any of my friends had that reaction to the first one i wouldn't recommend they watch the second one. Right? For their sake? Aside from that tho, for me personally, none of these are homerun sequels. I may just have to catch up to y'all for the next one! after all not everything is going to be everybody's kind of content. (i mean i would for sure catch a couple of these titles over on the youtube channel tho)
MoulinNoir
2023-01-19 01:26:18 +0000 UTCExtended LotR is always better, especially for newbies. I'm really getting tired of this misinformation being spread here for no good reason.
Richard Maurer
2023-01-19 00:46:52 +0000 UTCWell, the LOTR movies and Harry Potter movies seem like requirements while all the others are just... here's some more of that if you liked the first, so I had to pick from the required watching.
Robert Reichle
2023-01-19 00:41:23 +0000 UTCOh mannnn....decisions, decisions. I actually wouldn't mind seeing Ashleigh's reactions to all of these but for different reasons. I guess if I had to put them in some kind of preferential order: 1. HP 2. Rocky 3. LW 4.LOTR 5. JP 6.Airplane 7. Gremlins
CinWin
2023-01-18 23:13:07 +0000 UTCI think I’ve heard someone mention there is a list somewhere of what movies Ashleigh has already watched? If so, can someone provide a pointer to it?
Mark Hanley
2023-01-18 22:41:11 +0000 UTCIf LOTR wins, please don't let anyone convince you to watch the extended version. I think a newbie would do better with the theatrical release, especially if you did not like the first one very well. Please think about adding "Some Like It Hot" for February. The story begins on Valentines Day and it is rated as one of the best romantic comedies. It stars the father of Jamie Lee Curtis and one of the guys--in his younger days--who stars in Grumpy Old Men.
2023-01-18 21:58:03 +0000 UTCDamn, Harry Potter is just to powerful to beat. I'm not mad at it just saying

2023-01-18 21:23:08 +0000 UTCYes she did

2023-01-18 20:28:31 +0000 UTCDid Ashleigh mention Robbie Coltrane's passing in the Goblet of Fire review? Gotta show some Hagrid love.
