Westerns are the greatest. Have you seen High Noon? How about 3:10 to Yuma (Glenn Ford edition). Bad Day At Black Rock is really good too.

Bruce Devine

For a part where you might like John Wayne, try "The Long Voyage Home". He even plays it with a Swedish accent: "I yoost have a yinyer beer." (I'll just have a ginger beer.)

Two for two! I thought I didn't like Westerns! These two so far have been great!!

There was a song that was apparently supposed to be in the movie but was never used. That was a line in that song "He was the bravest one of all" I took it to mean Tom had the guts to go against his heart and do what was best for everyone.

That last line is, I think, intended to be ambiguous. It could be referring to Stewart, who has had to pretend his whole life, or it could be pointing out that even though Wayne is dead, the woman still loves him. Which makes it a bit poignant; The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance did, indeed, get nothing but the best.

33:27; I don't know why I thought the rest of the sentence was going to be a reference to Se7en. (If ya' know, ya' know)

"I'm just writin' in my own drama!" You're so much fun. I am so glad you watched this. The play is wonderful, as well...perhaps written a bit better. If you ever get a chance, see it. Maybe Hunter will produce it someday.

Jill Peterson

I cracked up at that comment. too. ;-D My other favorites were: ""Listen, I never had to put on pants to eat flapjacks"; "...the evolution of hattery"; and the one that gave me the biggest laugh. "He don't need more cans, he needs more bullets", LMAO I just love me some Ashleighisms.

Andy Devine was in just about every Western made. He had a unique voice and persona that made him very popular. I think the modern-day equivalent would be John Candy.

John Wayne's hat is either a "Boss of the Plains" hat or a "Pencil Roll". It's hard to be sure. The Boss hat is usually not that tall, but either of these hats can be shaped with that triple-dimple at the top. One reason the hat is tall is so a rider can dip out some water for his horse. Early Stetson ads show this, and note that the volume of the hat is 3 quarts.

I'm surprised she didn't recognize Angel Eyes from Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

The man who shot Liberty Valance was the bravest of them all.

I'd suggest "Rio Bravo". And after that, you can watch "El Dorado", then "Rio Lobo", which are all essentially the same movie. In the movie "Get Shorty", Chilli Palmer mentions this set of movies as well.

This is one I should have seen by now, given my redneck background. I've only seen a few John Wayne's. Hondo and True Grit.
