I think the problem with this movie vs Clerks is the writing. Clerks was mostly based around actual conversations he had in real life, so there was a natural flow. In this one a lot of it comes across as really clever on paper, but doesn't roll off the tongue as easily. You can hear a lot of the actors rapidly trying to get their lines out with no natural pauses to breathe.

John Hinckley shot Ronald Reagan to impress Jodie Foster. Mark David Chapman shot and killed John Lennon because he is an asshole.

Regarding Jody Foster being mentioned in movies. I am using my memory, which isn't always the best. Jodie Foster was a young actor (11-12 yeas old?) in a movie called Taxi Driver where she played a child prostitute. The guy who killed John Lennon was infatuated with Jodie Foster and thought if he killed Lennon he would impress her. I think the guy also thought if he killed Lennon, he would become John Lennon. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.
