EARLY ACCESS: The Matrix

This movie makes me question what reality even is.. or if reality is even real.

EARLY ACCESS: The Matrix

Comments

yes Agreed it an awsum Trilogy

I feel like now that you’ve watched this movie, you should watch ‘Grandma’s Boy’

I still remember the absolute fury and frustration of trying to connect via dial up in the 90s, having to listen to that scratchy, piercing sound over and over and over. Now, God forbid the wifi drops for a couple minutes, my kids whine and complain -- I just tell them you have no clue how privileged you are.

Laura Neary Smith

I said it on a previous post and I said it in the YouTube comments, but I'll say it again here to be a positive voice among all the naysayers: the sequels are great, and in my view, an essential expansion of what the Wachowski sisters were trying to say philosophically. Without giving too much away, each one necessarily expands on and upends the idea of Neo being The One, and that journey is one that I think more people ought to consider. Even in this one, at the end of the movie during Neo's final phone call, you can already see the idea that collective power transcends the power of one person.

The fourth film however, does in fact suck. 😂 I somehow enjoyed watching it though.

I don’t think 2 or 3 work all that well as individual films, but when put together as a single work they’re pretty epic.

Connecting to the internet was so much cooler when you had to use a phone line instead of this wireless garbage. I mean, it's far more functional and faster now, but it's just not as cool.

Robert Reichle

I loved part 2. Part 3... I watched it once...

Robert Reichle

Oh yes, the Kevin Smith/Jon Peters story is one of my favorite things ever. His Prince story is pretty epic too

When vids go from Patreon-only to public, there is a moment where it becomes unavailable. Should be good now

Michael Tocci

Video unavailable all the sudden mid stream?

"How do those glasses work?" Those are known as 'pince-nez', from the French for "pinch nose". Which tells you how they work. They are clipped to the bridge of the nose, like clip-on earrings. Wikipedia can tell you a lot more.

Wild, Wild West was a stinker for sure, but I feel really bad for Will Smith and the rest of the cast for that one. I'm 99% sure that the end result is not what they signed on for originally. The producer, Jon Peters, apparently had a thing about putting a giant spider in a film - Kevin Smith says he wanted him to put a giant spider in the 3rd act of a Superman script, and Neil Gaiman makes the same claim about a movie version of The Sandman. For some reason, Peters believed that a giant spider would make any movie a hit (a quote from Gaiman). Not that there weren't so many other problems with Wild, Wild West, but I'm guessing that the majority of them stemmed from having such a bonehead as executive producer. Here's a fun two-parter video of Kevin Smith talking about his experience with Jon Peters and the Superman script, for anyone who's interested: Part 1: https://youtu.be/Wo2KB1dEDdk Part 2: https://youtu.be/53hMYw8LX60

Shadowcat

Hugo Weaving also played Red Skull in Captain America

Oh, and funny that Ashleigh mentioned Will Smith... he was offered the part of Neo. He declined and instead made (gags) "Wild, Wild West"

I agree they're not terrible, but they are enough of a drop I'd suggest just taking the first movie as a one and done. In my opinion they take more away than they add.

The sequels don’t suck, but they’re just very different in tone from the first film. In the first film, we’re very confused about what’s going on and learning the truth along with Neo, but in the second and third films (which are really one big movie, split into two volumes, like Kill Bill) the plot deals with Neo’s role as The One in Zion’s war with the machines. Really great story, but with some poor writing/acting/cgi in some parts. It’s easy for people to say the sequels suck (when compared to the original because it is flawless), but honestly they’re pretty cool, albeit flawed.

Nick of Time

And Red Skull in Captain America, thus the Marvel connection.

Tim Thompson

This is one where I would *not* recommend the sequels. I love 'The Matrix' but watching the next two was brutal.

Tim Thompson

I've been rooting for you to see The Matrix, if only for the references that are constantly made to it. It really made me think about what is and what isn't reality and perception can affect it. The sequels suck, BTW.

Ashleigh: "Well, now I have a fear of bugs gettin' in my belly button!" We all do, darlin', we all do.

This film was made in an era without broadband and wireless networks. To go online via dial up you needed to plug your modem directly into the phone line. That’s why they are always using phones. Agent Smith is played by Hugo Weaving who was Lord Elrond in Lord of the rings.
