WATCH ALONG: Fast Times at Ridgemont High

WATCH ALONG: Fast Times at Ridgemont High

mimeograph, Xerox, same difference ;)

Sergio Gonzalez

I don't care how crazy he gets, I love Nic Cage! I knew about his love of comics, and his kid's name. I like that he's such a fan. Knew a Star Trek fan once who named her son Sarek Picard. As for Night of the Comet, I'm a costumer by trade. I made a replica of the cheerleading uniform from it, and my friend who wore it won a costume contest! We were surprised how many people recognized it. Te same actor is a cheerleader in Fast Times, too! Gotta love the 80s!

Jill Peterson

I never thought the mimeographs would get you high. Nobody ever said that when I was in school. You smelled them because they smelled weird.

Thomas Yanez

Night of the Comet is one of my favorite '80s movies. Also, Nic Cage chose "Cage" as his last name because he's a big comic book geek and named himself after Marvel superhero Luke Cage. (And he named his son Kal-El after Superman.)

Kevin Mowery

Yeah, mimeographs or ditto machines. There's a bunch of videos online about how they worked. But point being, us GenXers desperately wanted to get high.

Kevin Mowery

You can catch up with Jennifer Jason Leigh on Single White Female (maybe for Hallobeans, since it's a thrillery, suspensey one?), such an icon of the 90s!

Lola Lirola

I don't think it's old Xerox toner... I think it's old mimeograph ink.

Derek Hiemforth

The entire sniffing the handouts thing is because the toner from those older xerox printers could get you high.

Sergio Gonzalez

Did you realize that Nicolas Coppola IS Nic Cage ??

Liz Booker

With this comment you made yourself very clear, and i think we're in agreement about most things. However, i don't think there is any particular need, or reasonable way, to do away with a state of being like that. It's like saying "We must do away with the concept of people being blonde," which can also be a source of fetishification and objectification. Rather, it's the image of virginity as something holy and extra super special clean that should change, at least when it comes to women. This, however is very much a religious problem, and it's possibly going to take millennia before we're done with that shit.

Opti_Frog

Opti_Frog I think we are on the same page, but I said what I mean. The word virginity was applied to "undiscovered" land before it was applied to "undiscovered" genitals. So while yes the hymen as a seal is a myth so is this push of the undiscoved person. Like the land, those people have history and value apart from those seeking to discover and take them and value apart from any actions those people do with them. It's an unhealthy concept that spurs fetishes and objectification. It needs to be done away with. A person's sexuality should be free for them to explore when and how they desire with as many or few consensual partners as they desire. My first post shouldn't be seen as supporting anything other than a healthy relationship with one's self including their sexuality no matter how free or restrained that might be.

Dissonant Bard

I think you mean that the image of the hymen as a barrier is a myth. Being a virgin just means that you haven't had sex. Having sex doesn't make you cool but it doesn't make you dirty either. That young girls get pregnant at a young age has much more to do with bad sex education than a lack of abstinence. And young women being forced to give birth to said unwanted children is barbaric.

Opti_Frog

Also virginity is a myth and having sex at a young age doesn't make one cool. I grew up when the average age of one's first time was 15. We also had a daycare in our 1 high school, 1 junior high town and had at least 1 child age out of the daycare before his mom graduated. You do you and we will keep telling everyone about the cool girl watching movies on YouTube

Dissonant Bard

So you are saying that if I keep requesting Cannibal! The Musical there is a chance.

Dissonant Bard

Oh, Nicolas Coppola, I thought that was gonna be Nicolas Cage for a second. That made me laugh way more than it should have.

Kenton Kruger

SO proud of you for recognizing Nicolas Cage, but he had not changed his professional name yet, and he's credited as "Nicolas Coppola" as he is a nephew of director Francis Ford Coppola. So many young stars in this. Oscar winners and all! I think next on the list should be NIGHT OF THE COMET. Hallowbeans will be perfect for it.

Jill Peterson

Your surprise at young sex and mischief is adorable! Then you say things like, "Two-pump Chump", and make coffee come out of my nose with laughter! hahaha

Jill Peterson

Thank you @Kenton!

Ashleep

You did not miss it.
