EARLY ACCESS: Speed (1994)

Is everyone else getting the age restriction thing?? I see it on my end and I've never seen it happen before.

"Don't Get Dead" words to live by right there. First time seeing Keanu Reeves ever!

EARLY ACCESS: Speed (1994)

Comments

Also, "Practical Magic" starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. One of my favorite movies ever!

Shawn Ravenfire

Practical Magic is so great!

Lola Lirola

I second these choices!

Echo

If you haven't seen other Sandra Bullock movies, I recommend the action flick Demolition Man starring Sylvester Stallone and Sandra Bullock.

Echo

What about X-men (just the first one for context), before Deadpool... Deadpool...Deadpool...

Deirdre Barthle

Watched this with my husband, and when they first get on the closed highway, he asks, “Why don’t they just don’t drive a flat bed next to the bus and get people off?” “Wait….. have you not seen Speed!?!?” He just turned 40 this year. Guess we’re watching Speed tonight.

Rebecca Anne

Love this movie! Now that you know who Jeff Daniels is, maybe Arachnophobia for Hallowbeans. And Practical Magic because Sandra Bullock is in it 😀

Rebecca Anne

Also 1986's "River's Edge" featuring both Keanu and Dennis Hopper is worth a look

Paul Johnson

You recognize the captain from Terminator 2, he was Miles Bennett (the guy who saved the Terminator arm and created them in the first place). And the weird guy on the bus was Cameron in Ferris Bueller. As for Keanu, I think you will grow to like him more as you see him in different roles. Some of his roles are meh, but others he is fantastic in.

Kel

Twister is a good call, I think she'd like it. I doubt she's seen it in real life.

Michael Waldrep

Yes!! We need double-redhead badassery!!

Lola Lirola

I've seen both versions, and I still think the Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway version is the best. Pierce Brosnan just can't compare. (And he always looks like Remington Steele to me...)

N1nth Sh4dow

Snuck in through a busted emergency exit to see "Animal House" when I was 11

Paul Johnson

So happy that we got to this one! Such a classic action movie. Keanu is one of Canada's national treasures. And as an fyi...the yellow barrels of water are 'highway impact attenuation devices' that are usually at exit ramps to absorb the energy of car accidents in those locations.

Cosmic Slice

I sometimes forget how much stricter the movie ratings used to be in the States as opposed to Canada.

Kenton Kruger

@Michael..... you're funny 😂. I would have loved Ashleigh to see the Thomas Crown affair but it did not poll very well.....but it did have to go up against The Green Mile and the Star Wars prequels....ugh. Maybe someday...... sorry if you start getting requests because of my Thelma and Louise message....

Lynette Cummins

I mean, it's between "The Room" and "Samurai Cop," but I'm not feeling that evil yet

Michael Tocci

Agreed! Like the random Jackie Chan movie from the mid-eighties. Wha?

Michael Waldrep

I will not hound you with requests, just tip the hat in thanks when you pick stuff like this. Oh, and scream "Nooooo!" when you hint at stuff like The Room.

Kenton Kruger

I admit it’s tempting to send you requests because there are still so many classics she has yet to hit, but I’ll just be happy you picked Speed.

Michael Waldrep

You spelt "Thomas Crown Affair" wrong. :) Okay, so... I might have a few months already mapped out. There are some movies that I THINK are destined to happen without me picking them (for example, I was pretty confident Roger Rabbit didn't need my help). Thelma and Louise is mentioned enough here that I think it's bound to happen. That being said... if enough time goes by and it's not gaining any traction, then just maybe... (Also... I'm now scared I'll start getting requests :) )

Michael Tocci

First movie I saw at the movie theater was American Pie 2. Lol

Jacob Colson

1000% agreed. She would absolutely love Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon together.

Lynette Cummins

@Lynette Thelma and Louise is a classic that would definitely get a 5/5 rating from Ashleigh!

Michael Waldrep

@ Michael.....how about Thelma and Louise???

Lynette Cummins

Huzzuh, my pleasure! While I have committed myself to Spidey's here and there, I agree, we need them classics (and yes, Speed qualifies in my book)

Michael Tocci

The first R-rated movie I saw in theaters. I was in 6th grade, so I bought a ticket for "The Cowboy Way" and snuck into "Speed."

Andy H.

Great reaction I can remember seeing this film in the theater back in the day...a good intro to Dennis Hopper who made his film debut in 1955's "Rebel Without a Cause"(one of two films he appeared in with James Dean the other being 1956's "Giant")...some other cool films with him are "Night Tide"(1961), "Apocalypse Now"(1979), "Blue Velvet" and "Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2"(both 1986)...Stephens the annoying tourist guy was played by Alan Ruck who played Cameron in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"

Paul Johnson

Next Jan de Bont film, Twister! (I wonder if Ashleigh's already seen it or not. I know she hasn't reacted to it, but just wondering if she's seen it in real life.)

Jacob Colson

Thank you Tocci for picking this movie! I understand why you (Ashleigh) are doing the big franchise movies like MCU, Harry Potter & LOTR, but I'm in it for the classics, like Speed!
