EARLY ACCESS: Overboard

Basically me, simping over Kurt Russel and Goldie Hawn for almost two hours. But also - if the plot was real life, that is weird, but for a movie, I think this was....

The restraint the romantic story scene takes place in was a place in Ft Bragg Ca named Cpt Flints. Me and my family use to eat their when we would take trips to the coast to escape the heat. Sadly when I was getting ready to take my son to his first trip to the coast, we found out it had closed down.

I am soooo happy Ashleigh finally reacted to this. I have a super special place in my heart for this film since I grew up where they filmed a lot of it. I have many memories of the bowling alley, the restaurants at Noyo Harbor, and have enjoyed the same views of Noyo Bridge hundreds of times. It's like jumping into a time-machine every time I watch it. If you"re ever in Fort Bragg, CA, go visit Noyo harbor. Unfortunately, you can't visit the bowling alley...well, you can... if you're fixin' to do some prain' instead of some bowlin'...it's a church now.

You should watch the HBO special from the early 80's. It's basically PeeWee's Playhouse for adults. It's was slightly toned down for the Saturday morning show. Paul Ruben is great. His parts in the Cheech and Chong movies are hysterical

Not sure why this character never connected with me. I was exactly the right age. I think I saw maybe two(?) Pee-Wee’s Playhouse and just walked away (turned the channel) shaking my head. The scenes I’ve seen of the movie look like more of the same. Not dissing those who love it, just saying 💯 misses the mark for my personal sense of humour.

She's in her early 40s.

@Kenton just curious, but how old was that person you showed Big Adventure to?

Superbad is better than American Pie

I think Ashleigh should definitely react to American Pie (since she's a fan of Eugene Levy) and Bridesmaids.

Hell yeah. I think Ashleigh would definitely dig it since she enjoyed the humor and the dialogue in Kill Bill 1 & 2.

I showed someone that movie about a year ago who knew nothing about him and they loved it, though I can see where some advanced knowledge might help.

Kurt Russell must-see movie is “Death Proof”, directed by Quentin Tarantino. 😎☠️🚗💃

Yeah, I can’t imagine someone watching “Big Adventure” without knowing ANYTHING about Pee Wee Herman as a character.

One does not just watch PeeWee Herman alone. You need to know about PeeWee before watching his movie.

Yaaaaaaassssss! Every once in a while you throw me for a loop by not liking something I think you will. But Overboard was the one I would have put good money on that you were going to love. It hits every one of your sweet spots. Whelp. From the beginning of the channel, I most wanted Overboard and The Karate Kid. You’ve done those now, so everything from here on out is gravy for me! 😊 I saw someone else commented on this, too: my first thought after watching this reaction was for something COMPLETELY different, watch one of Kurt’s old Disney movies. My personal favourite is The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes. 😛 But Backdraft and Tango and Cash are pretty spectacular. But….I know *I* sometimes get annoyed when everyone wants you to stick with just one actor *cough*JohnCandy*cough*, so I am just as happy if you want to take a little break from Kurt Russell to discover new actors, as well. 🥰

I am mostly homebound I watch a lot of movies and tv shows. My allergies are so bad I’m allergic to everything so I’m always inside. Great movies can make life a little better when you can’t do much else. My breathing doesn’t allow me to go places so my husband accommodated me with lots and lots of tv and movie apps. Great movie you should definitely watch arsenic and old lace, while you were sleeping, my favorite wife, some like it hot. Must see movies

Warner had a lot of great work, but I think Time After Time is some of his best work.

Oh. God! is my favorite performance of his. But let's be honest, if Ashleigh does put up a poll for him, The Rocketeer is going to win by a landslide.

I had forgotten about Sorvino's performance in "Oh God!"...he was great loved that movie
Paul Johnson
2022-07-25 21:34:20 +0000 UTC
And David Warner as well...he appeared in about 220 films probably most notably in "Titanic"...but if Ashleigh chooses to honor him there are some great ones to choose from including "The Omen", "Straw Dogs", "Time After Time", "The Island" and "TRON"...he was also great as Bob Cratchit in the 1984 George C. Scott version of "A Christmas Carol"

Michael, in a thread below I recommended those two along with Time Bandits, The Man With Two Brains, and for Hallobeans, The Omen.

First David Warner, now Paul Sorvino? Damn, I'm going to back to bed. (Edit: Paul Sorvino recommendations: Oh God!, The Rocketeer, Bulworth, Romeo + Juliet, Repo: The Genetic Opera)

David Warner died too. Are we thinking "Time After Time," or "Tron?" (Also, you spelt "The Rocketeer" wrong)

Oh no, Paul Sorvino died. Well, looks like we gotta watch Goodfellas again.

More Kurt Russell for me too Ashleigh. My sister and I have lusted after him since his early work for Disney. If you want to see Uber young Kurt, not old enough to lust after, watch Elvis's "It Happened at the World's Fair". Though Elvis was a hottie if you ask me. No, I'm not quite that old, but my mother was a huge fan so I grew up watching his movies on TV.
I'd put my vote in for "Soldier", "Stargate", "Tango and Cash". For Goldie - "Private Benjamin" and "First Wives Club".

If you like a seafaring Kurt Russell, "Captain Ron" is a must see. Seriously (at the risk of giving up my age) I literally wore out two VHS tapes watching this one. You really need to see it.
