WATCH ALONG: Guess Who's Coming To Dinner

WATCH ALONG: Guess Who's Coming To Dinner

I just had a thought: Perhaps folks don't know the meaning of the title? It's not about a dinner party. Back in the days before (and after) the Civil Rights Act, you would hear people say, "Well, I'm for equal rights, but I still wouldn't have them over for dinner." The use of "dinner" in the title is intended as a specific reference to this attitude.

Yay! I adore this movie and Tracy's speech at the end. Gonna buy this movie so I can watch along with you!

Loved the reaction! Such a great movie. To answer some questions: Yes interracial marriage was illegal in many states back then and this movie came out the same year that Loving Vs. Virginia was decided by the Supreme Court. Also part of both fathers' concerns is that even if both families consent the USA was not (and still is not in some places) safe for interracial couples. People would see them and try to hurt them or kill them both. People have been murdered in cold blood for exactly this in more states than I have fingers.

Omg! Kate Hepburn and Spencer Tracy had a loooong relatively open affair for about 30 years, because Spencer was actually married. He died only a couple of weeks after they finished shooting this movie. The speech he made in the end was not acting 😒 Kate never went to his funeral btw in respect of his wife. She (Kate) was the one who found his dead body in their kitchen at night though 😒 They were a legendary couple and they made so many classic movies together!! Another Kate Hepburn movie you have to see is On Golden Pond!! With Jane Fonda too! ❀️❀️

Fun reaction to a great movie. Thanks :) This was the ninth (and best) movie that Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy starred in together, going back to 1942. During that time they were also in a deeply committed real-life relationship, married in all but name but complicated by the fact that he was married to another woman the whole time. I don't always understand people. By the time of this movie he'd been in poor health for years and died a few weeks after filming finished. I think you'd also like Hepburn in The Philadelphia Story (1941) and The African Queen (1952). Also The Aviator (2004), where Cate Blanchett did a fabulous job playing Hepburn.

Thank You for watching this I forgot how good it is

Katharine and Audrey are not related. Katharine is STELLAR in everything. She and Spencer (seen here as a couple) were a real-life couple. My favorite Katharine movie is The Lion In Winter.
