EARLY ACCESS: Dr. Strange

Thank you guys or being so patient and understanding.  The Watch Along is still uploading!

I'm currently working on the details for this one - it seems like one of my files got corrupted somehow and some of the film portions seem distorted?? I don't know how to fix that so I hope that is not too distracting.

EARLY ACCESS: Dr. Strange

Comments

Benny&Joon needs to be added to some list somewhere. I think she'd love it, and it's one my favorite movies.

Frankophile

These are some of my favorite "chick flicks" that aren't sappy: The Devil Wears Prada, Chocolat, Eat Pray Love, Julie & Julia, Under the Tuscan Sun, Something's Gotta Give, Baby Boom, and Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead.

Kelly Marie

As much as I am not a fan of Thelma and Louise it is definitely one of those touchstone movies that need to be seen, just for the cultural impact it had.

Kenton Kruger

I totally agree with Lynette about Thelma & Louise. She has to watch that at some point. Some other ideas: Romy & Michelle and Bridesmaids.

nycDawn

@Michael, please pick Thelma & Louise. Ashleigh would love that one, it's such a girl power movie. Beaches is good but I would pick others before it. Heathers is a bit dark, I'm not sure about that one..... So far I love your picks, but I do agree it's too bad there isn't a woman on the top tier..... maybe someday. 😀

Lynette Cummins

Do people think she'd like "Heathers?" I've thought about assigning it, but I worry about the subject matter. I've also been hesitant to assign Thelma and Louise (dat ending) and Beaches (Bawling Ashleigh episodes are fine, but I'M not gonna be responsible). And I'd be all over A League of Their Own had she not watched it! Anyway... I have quasi mapped out some of my picks, but I agree we should mos def be diversifying!

Michael Tocci

Benedict Cumberbatch is a Tan-Fac-Tic Actor who is able to find characters that are his Generation and yet are central to the stories... Dr Strange is a perfect fit to the Marvel Movies...

James Falato

It's a great show, hotness of Cumberbatch or not.

Robert Reichle

There are a fair number of ladies on here, and I do find the guys try to throw a few flicks her way that might not normally be guy picks but that they vote or pick just because they think she'd like them, like we did get 9 to 5, Fried Green Tomatoes, Mask, Steel Magnolias, etc. Can't remember which were MMMember picks, which were polls, and the odd one Ashleigh just picks herself (aside from Moonstruck). Frankly I've been saying a bit lately that she is giving too many slots to polls and should start picking more movies herself again. Plus in the end she chooses what gets on the polls.

Kenton Kruger

Ashleigh has said in reactions that her demographic is more male than female which might explain why the Millennial members are all male and I believe the members who left were also male. But I think there should be a mix also.

Mark Sylvester

Thanks. I figured. It’d be nice if there was more of a mix. Maybe someday.

nycDawn

Pretty sure all 4 are guys.

Kenton Kruger

I’m curious if any of the millennial members are women. I know she’s doing this series, but in general there don’t seem to be many films chosen with female protagonists.

nycDawn

Hi Ashleigh, I'm going to make another couple of suggestions from the 80's that are not part of any series really. The original Top Gun and the original Red Dawn They are classics and especially now that Top Gun Maverick has hit the theaters, you need to see the original. Even if you don't review it, you should see it so you know the backstory before you watch the new one.... assuming you do. It stars Tom Cruise of course, Val Kilmer, and some others you might recognize. Red Dawn has Patrick Swayze (Ghost, Dirty Dancing), Charlie Sheen (Platoon, Two and a half Men), Jennifer Grey (Dirty Dancing, Ferris Bueller), Lea Thompson (Back to the Future), C. Thomas Howell, Powers Booth, and others who were famous then or became famous.

Mark Lee

Yeah, no offense to Benedict or anything - he's just not my type - but his voice is otherworldly, though. His voice could get it. lol

Rue

You're going to LOVE Captain Marvel!

Chris Starke

He's gorgeous as Sherlock!

Lynnetta

When she says she "took half of one," she means a Red Bull, right? 😉

Michael Tocci

Heck yes, Lynette... they just get better and better

Michael Tocci

Ray Liotta (RIP) Good fellas!!

David Harrison

Great review! This is one I haven't actually seen yet but am inspired to check it out now. Can't wait for your reaction to GotG2, you're gonna love it.

Laura Neary Smith

So Ash where does Dr Strange rank in the marvel list?? Did it take first place?

Sarah

I love you liked the movie, but I really hope you're feeling better, Ashley. I don't post as much as I used to, because life, but I still watch, and still love seeing you. Take care, be safe, much love.

Michael Sailor

Thanks for the tip, I'm digging it so far. I didn't know about the end credits until Iron Man 2.....they found a hammer in the ground.... I noticed stan Lee in all 3 movies....his cameos are quick.

Lynette Cummins

Is anyone else seeing the movie footage artifacting when she cuts between her full screen reaction back to the movie.

Jason Espinoza

Benedict was on a British tv series on PBS called Sherlock (2010) where he played Sherlock Holmes. If you think he could get it in Dr. Strange, wait till you see him as Sherlock with some nice wavy hair and his natural British accent !! :) Swoonage!!

Echo Moon

Welcome to The MCU, Lynette!!! Just 2 things to remember, 1- don't forget about the end credit scenes (sometimes in the middle, sometimes at the end, sometimes both.) and 2- keep an eye out for Stan Lee's cameo in each and every movie! Excelsior!!!

Super Dave

Thank you for letting me know that. It will be interesting to see other superheroes follow his lead.

Lynette Cummins

A lot of the first Iron Man was shot without much in the way of a script. The "I am Iron Man" line at the end was improvised. Originally, they intended for Iron Man to go the typical secret identity route, but when RDJ improvised that, they decided to keep it, and it really changed the way the MCU went, with very few heroes having secret identities.

Kevin Mowery

So I have not seen any of the MCU movies. But Ashleigh's reviews have been so enthusiastic and all of you comments too, I decided to try them out. So far I have seen Iron Man, Hulk, and Iron Man 2. My favorite so far is Iron Man 2. Favorite villain - Tim Roth in Hulk. Interesting that Tony Stark revealed himself as Iron Man.... I'm use to superheroes hiding their identity. Also Tony Stark's ego is a bit much, but hopefully that changes the next time he shows up. I hope that the villains pick up the pace....I blame Heath Ledger for me loving the bad guy.🃏 Next up for me.... Thor.😀
