EARLY ACCESS: Remo Williams The adventure begins

If you watched the video on the second channel, then you know my personal life has been a little rocky recently.  With the death of Fred Ward and then Memorial Day, I have some movies coming up that you didn't vote on BUT I have been able to sort out my life (a lil bit) and the polls will return this week! Thanks for understanding!

EARLY ACCESS: Remo Williams The adventure begins

Comments

You should have watched The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Seventh Dimension instead.

Hi Ashleigh. While this movie is based on "The Destroyer" series of novels, (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Destroyer_(novel_series)) it has no connection to the novels themselves. (The Destroyer is Remo's code name, and coincidentally also the fact that he is the human avatar reincarnation of Shiva, the Hindu God of Destruction, who in times of extreme danger has been known to possess Remo) In the books a 26 year old rookie Newark, NJ cop is framed for murder so he can be recruited to be the enforcement arm of CURE, a secret agency that violates the constitution to protect it. Basically when judges, politicians, witnesses, e.t.c., can't be bribed or threatened to be honest and do the right thing, Remo is sent in as the final solution, especially if it endangers National or World security. To accomplish this he is taught the fictional art of Sinanju by it's reigning latest master... Chiun. Sinanju is the "Sun Source", of all other martial arts. Basically if you combine all martial arts into one, you get Sinanju. In the books he is a human weapon, capable of dodging bullets, lowering his body temp on command, seeing perfectly in pitch black darkness, holding his breathe in excess of over an hour, among other things since he has been trained by Chiun to be the epitome of human physical perfection. The movie is basically a parody of the books and it was a essentially a money grab for Dick Clark of "American Bandstand" fame. and a director known for his comedic take on The 3 Musketeers movies of the early 70's. There was a desire by fans of the books to see a real life version of Remo and Chiun on the big screen..... and we got this..... Another example of ppl making a movie for a quick payday about established characters in over 100 novels at the time, that they knew absolutely nothing about.

Tony Hart

I keep wondering how it is she hasn't done Big Business and Outrageous Fortune...she would LOVE BOTH.

Gary K

Joel Grey's yellowface performance did not age well.

Jill Peterson

Fred Ward is in Big Business with Bette Midler and Lily Tomlin You Will Like it

We gotchu! We all support you. You deserve Karaoke nights! Thanks for the EXTRA BEANS! Hey, I wonder how many of us are Gen-X. I am. Class of '89!

Jill Peterson

His character is awesome though.

Red Dwarf

Cheezy?!?... Sorry but "Cheez Wiz" is more like it...

James Falato

Remo is a film I would love to see redone and updated a bit. It does have the slowness of the 80's and it used too many long takes to make up time. It's one of my hubby's fav films and we watch it at least once a year. BTW-haberdashery is a place where they sell sewing notions for mens clothes and Wilford Brimley was not only the diabeetus guy, he was also in John Carpenters The Thing (1983) minus the mustache. ;) Remo is based on a bunch of books in the Destoyer series. Joel Grey played Chiun and he is not Asian, they used face prosthetics.

Echo Moon

Yikes! lol

Mark Sylvester

He wouldn’t be cast today. Though I found his character loveable and funny 😬

Mo Vetta

lol. Better hope she stops this before Andrew Dice Clay passes...

Kenton Kruger

Agreed. And if the movies are stinkers like "Problem Child" it will be one long year for Ashleigh!

Mark Sylvester

Yeah not sure what to suggest either, just saying this tier of actors you'll end up with the whole year pretty quick.

Kenton Kruger

I question Ashleigh's criteria for tribute also Kenton. But don't know myself where the lines should be drawn. Some actors will be viewed differently by different people. Does she go by Oscar wins? Nominations? Actors top asking price for appearance? Box office? I don't know what she should go by.

Mark Sylvester

I always found it uncomfortable after I realized Chiun' is played by Oscar winner Joel Grey, a white guy.

Robert Gruhn

You know, I get the tribute view for actors who have passed, and I don't mean to offend the memory of Fred Ward (or Gilbert Gottfried), but if you are going to do it for that level of actors that'll be your whole channel.

Kenton Kruger

Hey Ashleigh, so the movie is based on a series of comics and action novels, (the Destroyers, the adventures of Remo and Chun.) i think they wanted to do a series of movies like James Bond but it never took off.

Steven A Martinez

And this movie was just as cheesy when it came out, which is why there is no 'Remo Williams 2: The Adventure Continues'. However, Joel Grey's Chun stole the show and has made this a guilty pleasure for me.

David Patterson

I've been up in the crown you just see water straight down the Hudson River
